I struggle with value-priced ($15 and under) California wines. Why? Because they often have a processed, manufactured, artificial style, and that doesn’t do it for me. But occasionally, I am presented with some great ones, and more often than not, they come from California’s Central Coast. And I’m more than excited to share some of my newest finds with you this Friday. Stop by, taste, learn, and save every Friday at Table Wine.

1. 2015 The Monterey Vineyard Chardonnay (Monterey County, California) – Made by the fine folks at Chalone Vineyard, this rich and stylish Chardonnay comes from vineyards in the lower-lying Salinas Valley. The resulting wine sees 10 months of aging in French oak, yielding a sophisticated wine with gorgeous notes of baked pear, spiced apple, flowers and nutmeg. Gorgeous wine, great price.
2. 2015 The Monterey Vineyard Pinot Noir (Monterey County, California) – Like the Chardonnay, this represents tremendous value for money. Soft, silky, and quite sensual, this one delivers aromas and flavors of ripe cherry/black cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and oak spice. This would pair perfectly with all sorts of fall dishes — think root vegetables, mushrooms, poultry and pork.
3. 2016 Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles, California) – This has been a top seller at Table Wine for years, and for good reason. Husband and wife Brian and Stephanie Terrizzi are the winemaker/viticulturist team behind Broadside. They harvest their wines at lower sugars and use little to no new oak to create pure and finessed wines. Their 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon certainly shows the classic ripeness of Paso Robles, but there’s great balance and freshness here.
