Try Three For Free – Argentinean Cabernet Sauvignons

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – This Saturday, September 12th from 2-5 p.m. – Want Napa Cab flavor at a fraction of the price?  It’s time to try Argentinean Cabernet Sauvignons and this is the place to do it.
We’ve noticed a serious uptick in the quality of Cabs we’ve been tasting from Argentina recently, and we’re excited to pour three of our favorites for you.  With the emphasis on ripe dark fruit flavors framed by judicious oak, these wines could stand toe to toe with wines from California that cost a lot more.  We invite you to stop by any time between 2 and 5 p.m. this Saturday to taste, learn, and save up to 20% off on all of the tasting wines.

The Wines
All tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any six of them, or 20% off if you mix any twelve of them.

1. 2012 Fabre Montmayou Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva (Mendoza, Argentina) – Hervé Joyaux Fabre, owner and director of Fabre Montmayou, was born in Bordeaux, France, to a family of wine negociants.  He arrived in Argentina in the early 90’s and quickly began acquiring vineyards, and today we feel he and his team are making some of the country’s best values.  The wine shows “subtle aromas of cedar wood, incense and a hint of leather intermixed with the crunchy red and black fruit while the palate displays more dusty-tannins with a pungent sapid sensation that I associate with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is very good value. Drink now-2016.”

Tasting Price: $11.69/bottle | $11.04 in a mixed six pack | $10.39 in a mixed case

2. 2013 Lamadrid Cabernet Sauvignon “Single Vineyard” (Agrelo – Mendoza, Argentina) – This small family run winery is situated in the Agrelo district of Mendoza, one of the top spots for red wine production in the entire region.  It shows in this deeply colored, super ripe, and delicious wine!  Boasting notes of dark cherry, cassis, anise, and integrated toasty oak, this full bodied effort is one to drink now through 2020.
Tasting Price: $15.29/bottle | $14.44 in a mixed six pack | $13.59 in a mixed case

3. 2012 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon “Remolinos Vineyard” (Agrelo – Mendoza, Argentina) – Like the Lamadrid, the Decero Cabernet Sauvignon also comes from the Agrelo zone and from a single vineyard that sits at 3,500 feet in elevation.  Grapes are picked at optimum ripeness and the wine is barrel fermented and aged for 14 months in French oak.  The result is “(a) vibrant and rich red, with concentrated flavors of dark cherry, Christmas pudding and macerated plum, accented by hints of raspberry ganache. Black licorice and mineral details show on the finish. Drink now through 2018.” 90 points – Wine Spectator
