Super Saturday Wine Tasting – Tour de France with Sour Grapes

Saturday, April 29th from 2-5 p.m. – Super Saturday Wine Tasting!  We’re taking you on a Tour de France with special guests Daniel Lukin-Beck and Katerina Dordelman of Asheville’s own Sour Grapes — sample 9 awesome small grower/producer, organic and biodynamic French wines for just $5 — free if you’re a Grape Nut!

Our next Super Saturday adventure will give you the chance to try some incredible French wines from local distributor/importer Sour Grapes.  Led by the passionate Devon Price and the cool and calm Daniel Lukin-Beck, Sour Grapes has established itself as one of our top sources of high quality, estate grown, organic and biodynamic French wines.  For this tasting, we’ll focus on the wines of Vignerons de Nature, a small group of independent growers and producers committed to organic and biodynamic viticultural practices.  We’re talking farmers with dirt under their fingernails, folks who know that good wine is made in the vineyard, real wines from real people!  Sour Grapes direct imports these wines and they are some of our favorite French wines in the store.

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Quintessential House Wines

Friday, March 24th from 4-7 pm – Join us at the store (directions here) for a free wine tasting featuring a trio of quintessential house wines.  From a little Southern French operation called Le Ballon, this is your chance to try their white, rosé, and red.  Trust us, the wines are delicious, affordable, and perfect for spring and summer parties and casual sipping.

Call them house wines, table wines, or vin de table…….we don’t care what you call them!  The new Le Ballon wines from the Languedoc are some of the most honest and easy drinking French wines of all time!  Part of the Vignerons de Nature portfolio imported to North Carolina by local importer/distributor Sour Grapes, the Le Ballon wines are ridiculous values in highly quaffable organic wines.  We’ll start with the white, a fresh and zesty, tank fermented blend of equal parts Sauvignon Blanc and Vermentino.  Up next, the dry rosé is simply sensational — 50% Grenache and 50% Cinsault, this is about as chuggable as wine can get.  To finish, the grill-ready red combines Grenache with little bits of Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon — juicy, spicy, and easygoing, this is the perfect mid-weight red for warmer weather drinking.  All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn and save on all of the featured tasting wines.

Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

Deep, medium to full-bodied, with amazing fruit, the purity, authenticity and Mediterranean upbringing of this wine are obvious.” – Jeb Dunnuck – The Wine Advocate – 92 points

3. 2014 Chateau Saint-Roch Maury Sec “Kerbuccio” (Roussillon, France) – Jean-Marc Lafage grew up near the village of Maury, a rugged, sheltered and warm part of the Roussillon marked by its black schist soils.  Lafage purchased this estate about 10 years ago and the quality of the wines skyrocketed.  We turned many of our regulars on to the 2013 version of this wine, and we’re deeply impressed by the 2014.  “A blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Carignan that was aged in 50% new demi-muids, the 2014 Kerbuccio Maury Sec has an inky color to go with lots of upfront black raspberry, cassis, licorice, wilder herbs and violet-like aromas and flavors.” – Jeb Dunnuck – The Wine Advocate – 93 points

Tour de France Wine Tasting featuring wines from Vintage 59 Imports

Seated Tour de France Wine Tasting

Seated Tour de France Wine Tasting featuring delicious, small grower/producer wines from Vintage 59 Imports!  Thursday, July 21st in the Table Wine Classroom from 7 to 9 p.m. – $30/person ($24 for Grape Nuts) – Call us at 828.505.8588 to reserve your seat today!  The passionate and lovely Debra Lewis of Vintage 59 Imports will join us to present an incredible lineup of small batch French wines from all corners of the country.  From Sancerre and White Burgundy to Cotes du Rhone and Chinon, we’ll leave no galet (French for stone) un-turned.

Vintage 59 founder Roy Cloud focuses on “growers who manage small domains and make captivating wine. Some embrace organic or biodynamic values, some take a common-sense sustainable path; none adhere to conventional agro-chemical standards intent on volume. They are serious about their vineyard work, which they consider more fundamental than any post-harvest wizardry that may be employed to turn grape juice into wine. Minimalists in the cellar, these folks don’t think highly of the Houdini bag of modern enological tricks. They do, however, think deeply of land, tradition, and kinship.”

Silky, soft and pretty, it glides across the palate with glorious notes of red fruits, mellow earth and mild tannin and acid structure.  This is an ideal red for the warmer months.

Don’t forget, all of the tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any six of them, or 20% off if you mix any twelve of them.  This is a great chance to taste and stock up and save!

The Wines
Prices range from $15 to $25

1. NV Alla Costiera Prosecco (Veneto) – Filippo Gamba crafts one of the best Proseccos we’ve ever tasted! Not only does it taste great, you can feel really good about drinking it because it’s certified organic.  Composed entirely of 15-75 year old Glera, it is made using the Charmat method in very small batches.  It will quite simply blow your mind!
Tasting Price: $15.29/bottle | $14.44 in mixed six packs | $13.59 in mixed cases

2. 2012 Corzano E Paterno Corzanello Rosso (Tuscany) – This 40-year-old working family farm makes unpasteurized sheep’s milk cheese, olive oil and wine from vineyards just west of Greve.  Their Rosso might be called Chianti Classico by others, but they save that designation for their more “serious” wine.  Certified organic and composed of Sangiovese with small bits of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this is true, authentic Tuscan red wine for all occasions.
Tasting Price: $15.29/bottle | $14.44 in mixed six packs | $13.59 in mixed cases

3. NV Caparsa Rosso di Toscana (Tuscany) – This certified-organic one-man estate makes compelling wine from old vines in the heart of Chianti Classico, with very little manipulation or modern technology.  Proprietor Paolo Cianferoni makes this wine in rememberance of the ancient Chianti wine made for the peasant to drink a lot.  It’s Sangiovese and two white grapes: Trebbiano and Malvasia.  It’s brilliant!
Tasting Price: $15.29/bottle | $14.44 in mixed six packs | $13.59 in mixed cases

4. 2009 Pruneto Chianti Classico (Tuscany) – Riccardo Lanza makes prototype, pure Chianti Classico from his beautiful, organically farmed Sangiovese.  He always holds his wines back longer than most, so this is the current release.  Just 833 cases were made — how does this guy make a living?  As Riccardo says, “Sangiovese can make the best red wine, and is the flavor of Tuscany.”  Come taste it and see what you think!
Tasting Price: $21.59/bottle | $20.39 in mixed six packs | $19.19 in mixed cases
