Warm Weather Wines Tasting at Table Wine in Asheville, NC.

Wonderful Warm Weather Wines – Try 3 For Free Wine Tasting

Saturday, May 6 from 2-5pm – Join us to sample some great warm weather wines ideal for the spring and summer seasons.  Taste a white, a dry rosé, and a medium bodied red handpicked by Team Table Wine for your drinking pleasure!

There’s something about the spring that is just magical.  The flowers and trees are in full bloom, the landscape is green and full of life, and my wine preferences shift.  I tend to move from heavier, heartier foods and wines to fresher and livelier selections as the temperatures rise.  If you agree, stop by the store and let me share some of my favorite warm weather wines with you!  Up first, it’s a brand new Pinot Grigio from Argentina.  This one is rounder and more aromatic than most Pinot Grigio’s in this price range.  I think it would be great for sipping by the pool or on the beach or with richer seafood dishes.  Up next, it’s a new arrival dry rosé from Provence, and it’s a good one.  Flowing with gentle red fruits, ripe citrus, and mineral, I could drink this one liberally with any sort of grilled fish and/or vegetables.  To finish, it’s the new vintage of Barbera from Italy’s famed Vallana estate.  I love the purity and honesty of this medium bodied, slightly rustic red from one of the Piemonte’s greatest producers.  Enjoy it with just about any sort of meat off the grill.  I’ve done it again — writing up these tastings always makes me hungry!  Stop by on Saturday, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines.  Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email me at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

The Wines
All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2016 Vina Las Perdices Pinot Grigio (Mendoza, Argentina) – I’m always looking for good Pinot Grigio as it remains a go-to for many Table Wine customers.  I tasted this one recently with one of our favorite wine reps, and it floored me.  From Agrelo, a small village just south of Mendoza, this one bursts out of the glass with aromas of ripe citrus and white flowers.  Bring on the grilled salmon and green veggies!
Tasting Price: $12.59 in mixed 3-packs | $11.89 in mixed six packs | $11.19 in mixed cases

2. 2016 Les Hauts Plateaux Provence Rosé (Provence, France) – Talk about a great find in value priced, true Provencal rosé — this is it!  A blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault, I could drink this for hours on my back porch while reading, hanging with friends, or eating.  It’s just plain good.
Tasting Price: $10.89 in mixed 3-packs | $10.19 in a mixed six pack | $9.59 in a mixed case

3. 2014 Vallana Barbera (Piemonte, Italy) – Wine Spectator called Vallana one of the top 100 estates on the planet!  I’ll go with that, and I invite you to see what you think about their lowest priced wine.  100% Barbera flowing with honest, authentic, and traditional flavors of tart berry fruit, earth and spice, this has me dreaming about grilled lamb chops.
Tasting Price: $12.59 in mixed 3-packs | $11.89 in mixed six packs | $11.19 in mixed cases

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Chateau Montelena Wine Tasting

Friday, April 21st from 4-7 pm – Yep, you read that right as we’re hosting a free Chateau Montelena Wine Tasting on Friday!  Truly one of California’s blue chip estates, we will pour you an all-star lineup of their current releases.  This guarantees to be the best free wine tasting in Asheville!

Founded in 1882, Chateau Montelena is one of California’s most historic and respected estates.  With 120 acres under vine, the winery produces about 50,000 cases of wine each year, and they make 7 different wines.  That’s really not a lot of wine!  Bo Barrett is still running the show here, and he continues to turn out great wines rooted in balance, class, and finesse.  Join us and see what we’re talking about.  We’ll start with their Dry Riesling, a 1,500 case production wine that is guaranteed to convert the most avid Riesling hater.  Up next, the estate’s Calistoga Zinfandel is just singing this vintage with bbq-friendly notes of briary fruit and peppery spice.  To finish, it’s the new vintage of Montelena’s Napa Valley Cabernet, and they knocked it out of the park this year.  What’s new?  Talk is cheap, let the wine do the talking and stop by to taste, learn and save this Friday at Table Wine.   Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

1. 2015 Chateau Montelena Riesling  (Potter Valley, California) – We know, you hate Riesling because it’s so sweet and syrupy.  Wrong!  This one is completely dry and completely delicious.  In fact, it is actually sold out at the winery, but we’ve got a couple cases up for grabs.  Possessing bright acidity along with exotic tropical notes, this one makes us want for spicy Thai or Indian food.
Tasting Price: $22.49 in mixed 3-packs | $21.24 in mixed 6-packs | $19.99 mixed cases

2.2013 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel (Napa Valley, California) – Montelena’s Zinfandel is a rare Zinfandel treat.  As opposed to the extracted, jammy style often encountered, this one is balanced, medium bodied, and old school in style.  Briary red berries, earth, and spice all come out to play in this red wine that would pair nicely with a wide range of cuisines, from red sauced pasta dishes to smoked brisket.

3. 2013 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley, California) – Bo Barret’s Cabs are never the biggest or most extravagant, but they are always delicious, and this is no exception.  Mored medium bodied and seductive, it exhibits silky tannin and balanced acidity making it a perfect pair for a grilled steak.  Classic Napa Cabernet aromas and flavors of dark cherry, currant, tobacco, cedar, and licorice all make an appearance.  Drink now through 2025.

1. Belstar Prosecco (Veneto, Italy) – Prosecco is the perfect sparkling wine for the holidays, and the version from Belstar is in top form this year.  Dry, but nicely fruited with aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, peach and white flowers, this easy-going sparkler is perfect to drink before, during, and after the meal.
Tasting Price: $12.59/bottle | $11.89 in mixed six packs | $11.19 in mixed cases

2. 2015 Bidoli Sauvignon Blanc (Friuli, Italy) – When we tasted this a couple of weeks ago, it completely flipped our lids!  We looked and each other all said how much this sort of reminded us of Cercius Blanc, a previous best seller that is sadly out of stock.  From a warm vintage in Northeastern Italy, it explodes out of the glass with ripe notes of pear, tangerine, creamy citrus, green herb and light mineral.  We know Sauvignon Blanc isn’t always a top pick for the Thanksgiving meal, but this one would be fantastic!
Tasting Price: $11.69 on mixed 3-packs | $11.04 on mixed 6-packs | $10.39 on mixed cases

3. 2015 Girolamo Russo Etna Bianco “Nerina” (Sicily, Italy) – The wines from Sicily’s Mount Etna region are hotter than ever right now, and Girolamo Russo is one of the leading producers.  His white is composed entirely of Carricante, one of Italy’s greatest indigenous white varietals, and this is a richer, fuller bodied wine that should appeal to Chardonnay and White Rhone lovers.  Packed with notes of white peach, exotic tropical fruits, medium cream, and spice, it is absolutely delicious.
Tasting Price: $28.79 on mixed 3-packs | $27.19 on mixed 6-packs | $25.59 on mixed cases

4. 2014 Capitain-Gagnerot Bourgogne Rouge (Burgundy, France) – This is one of our greatest Red Burgundy finds of all time!  100% Pinot Noir from a 2 acre vineyard at the base of the hill of Corton that was planted in 1952, this is absolutely gorgeous.  Silky red fruits (cherry, framboise), exotic spices, espresso roast coffee, and forest floor notes permeate this medium bodied, silky smooth Pinot Noir.
Tasting Price: $23.39 on mixed 3-packs | $22.09 on mixed 6-packs | $20.79 on mixed cases

5. 2013 Vecchia Torre Salice Salentino (Puglia, Italy) – A blend of 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera from vineyards in Southern Italy, this is the wine for those who love rich and spicy red Zinfandels from California.  Full bodied, but possessing fine grained tannins, it coats the palate with flavors of ripe dark cherry, plum, and peppery, spicy notes.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

6. 2012 Domaine Bois de Boursan Chateauneuf du Pape (Rhone Valley, France) – We’ll end the tasting with a big, luxurious, Grenache-based red from the most famed growing zone in Southern France. Full bodied, yet rich and round, this one is packed with notes of kirsch, dark cherry, peppery spice and herb.  The slightly earthy nuance of the wine makes it a perfect partner to the root vegetables that are commonplace at Thanksgiving.

Sangiovese Tasting in Asheville, NC.

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Celebrating Sangiovese

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Join us as we’ll be celebrating Sangiovese and all of its glories!  Friday, October 28th, 4-7pm.

Sangiovese is responsible for some of Italy’s greatest red wines.  From classic Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino to grandiose Super Tuscans, the grape is one of the most prolific in the country.  Join us this Friday as we pour you 3 different versions of the grape and talk to you about the style and significance of the grape.  We’ll start with a delicious and value priced Chianti that would make a great mate to a big plate of lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs.  Next up, we’ll move out of Italy and into California as we pour you a slightly richer, fuller style of Sangiovese from the Central Coast.  We’ll finish up with a bigger, brawnier, more structured red from the famed hill of Montalcino.  All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save!  Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

1. 2013 Fattoria Casabianca Chianti Colli Senesi (Tuscany, Italy) –This small, family owned and operated estate consistently over-delivers the goods on this wine.  If you want to wow the Italian wine lover in your life and not spend a ton of money, this is the wine to do it with.  80% Sangiovese with the balance in Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Canaiolo, it is velvety smooth and exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, plum, and light earth nuances.
Tasting Price: $11.69/bottle | $11.04 in mixed six packs | $10.39 in mixed cases

2. 2011 Pietra Santa Sangiovese (Cienega Valley, California) – This one comes from California’s Central Coast and Pietra Santa blends in 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.  You can taste it too! With ripe plum, black cherry, and toasty oak notes, this one reminds us of a modern styled Super Tuscan accented by more of the plush fruit of California.
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

3. 2013 Caprili Rosso di Montalcino (Tuscany, Italy) – Caprili is one of our favorite Brunello producers, and their 2013 Rosso di Montalcino is lights out this vintage.  Composed entirely of Sangiovese Grosso from the estate’s younger vines that will eventually go into their Brunello, it is a pure taste of Tuscan Sangiovese.  It exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, dark plum, damp earth, licorice and mushroom.  Full bodied, but totally accessible, it is a joyous wine to drink now or over the next 5 years.
Tasting Price: $23.39 on mixed 3-packs | $22.09 on mixed 6-packs | $20.79 on mixed cases

If you think it’s impossible to find great California value wines, think again!  Yeah, you have to search for them a little bit harder, but they are out there and we are really good at finding them.  Join us this Friday as we present you with 3 Top California Values to quench your Patriotic thirst!  We tasted them, we loved them, we bought them, and we are excited to present them to you.  To start, we’ll pour you the 2015 Grayson Cellars Chardonnay, our new Case of the Month Selection.  Trust us folks, this is one of the best Chardonnay values in the world and the 2015 is one of the best vintages of this wine we’ve ever tasted.  Next up, it’s the fresh new vintage of one of the best Zinfandel values in the state.  Rich, spicy, round and perfect for chili and football, the Four Vines “Truant” Zinfandel cannot be beat for the price.  We’ll finish up with a rich and robust Cab from Paso Robles’ Ancient Peaks Winery.  Retailing for less than $20, you will be hard pressed to find a better domestic Cab for the money.  All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save!

1. 2015 Grayson Cellars Chardonnay (Various Regions, California) – This took “Best in Class,” and was rated 98 points by the judges at this year’s California State Fair Wine Competition.  Yep, this under-$15 Chardonnay beat out 300+ other Chardonnays in the biggest and oldest wine competition in the United States.  Possessing loads of ripe apple, peach, tangerine and mango balanced by crisp acidity and just a kiss of oak, this Chardonnay is totally legit.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases
Special Case of the Month Price: $9.49/bottle by the solid case — that’s over 20% off!

2. 2012 Four Vines Zinfandel “Truant” (Various Regions, California) – The tag line at Four Vines is “Living in Zin,” and we would tend to agree that the team lives up to that philosophy.  Their entry level wine combines purchased fruit from a number of Zinfandel hotspots scattered throughout the state.  Aged for 12 months in oak, the resulting wine is juicy, spicy, and pleasure bent with notes of ripe berries, plum, vanilla and spice box.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

3. 2014 Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles, California) – Paso Robles is highly noted for their Zinfandels and Rhone-styled blends, but we think the vintners of the region deserve a lot more respect for the Cabernet Sauvignons that are coming out these days.  Here’s a prime example of why!  This is just stellar and classically styled Cab with notes of dark currant, dark cherry, cassis, and zesty herbal nuances.  With ample body and big flavor, but soft tannins and a supple mouthfeel, this is a great go-to red for cooler weather drinking.
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 on mixed 6-packs | $15.99 on mixed cases

1. 2015 Reserve des Vignerons Saumur Blanc (Loire Valley, France) – Chenin Blanc is one of the most versatile of all white wines, and this one is a great introduction to the French version.  Fermented completely in stainless steel, it is dry, crisp, zesty and loaded with aromas and flavors of apple, citrus, and a touch of mineral.  With bright natural acidity and terrific purity of fruit, this is a great one to pair with roasted chicken, spicy stews, and curries.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

2. 2015 Elk Cove Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – Elk Cove cannot fail when it comes to Pinot Gris!  Pretty much every wine authority agrees that they produce one of Oregon’s greatest Pinot Gris’, and we agree 100% with those sentiments.  The 2015 just received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, and they called it one “of the greatest values in Oregon Pinot Gris.”  Laced with notes of luscious apple, pear, and citrus, this full bodied, refreshing white works well with roasted root vegetables, chicken, and pork dishes.
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 on mixed 6-packs | $15.99 on mixed cases

3. 2014 Bodegas Volver Tempranillo “Single Vineyard” (La Mancha, Spain) – This is always a stellar red wine value, but the 2014 is especially good!  From an old parcel of vines planted in 1957, it is 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in French oak and bottled unfiltered.  Boasting a deep, opaque color and rich notes of blackberry, cassis, vanilla and toasty oak, it is full bodied, but super smooth and delicious. Enjoy this one with richer fare (grilled meats, beef stew) or without food — it’s perfect for sipping while watching your favorite football team.  92 points Robert Parker

1. 2015 Isle Saint-Pierre Blanc (Southern Rhone Valley, France) – Isle Saint-Pierre is a small island in the middle of the Rhône river just 10 miles inland from the Mediterranean. This close proximity to the sea ensures a cooling influence resulting in fresh, easy drinking, “bistro-styled” wines for everyday consumption.  The white is made up of 70% Chardonnay, 25% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscat and is fermented entirely in stainless steel.  Offering up lovely notes of pear, apple, mixed citrus and honeysuckle, it is a white wine for all palates.

2. 2014 Chateau de la Selve Palissaire (Coteaux de l’Ardeche, France) – This wine blew us away when we tasted it a few weeks back!  We brought in a good bit of it and think you will enjoy it too!  La Selve is a certified organic estate in France’s Ardeche region.  Technically part of the Rhone Valley, it sits in between the Northern and Southern Rhone Valleys and is positioned further west.  Geography aside, this medium bodied blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Merlot overdelivers in a big way.  Juicy cherry, raspberry, earth and spice notes galore. Enjoy!!
Tasting Price: $11.69 on mixed 3-packs | $11.04 on mixed 6-packs | $10.39 on mixed cases

3. 2015 Domaine de Durban Beaumes-de-Venise Rouge (Southern Rhone Valley, France) – Vintage 2015 in the Southern Rhone is being called a great one by the producers of the region.  After tasting this wine, we tend to agree.  A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from 50+ year old vines, it is very reminiscent of Vacqueyras or Gigondas.  Notes of dark cherry, plum, pepper and Provencal herbs flow out of the glass of this full bodied, yet charming red.  Drink now through 2022.

1. 2015 Bodegas Carlos Serres Rioja Blanco (Rioja, Spain) – This white wine is a combination of 85% Viura and 15% Tempranillo Blanco fermented entirely in stainless steel.  Although Viura is quite common for White Rioja, this is the first time we’ve ever encountered Tempranillo Blanco, a natural mutation of Red Tempranillo that was discovered in 1988.  All of that aside, the wine is delicious and offers loads of quality at a ridiculously reasonable price.  Dry, zesty, aromatically engaging and perfect for summer, you’ll want to buy more than just one of these.
Tasting Price: $9.89/bottle | $9.34 in mixed six packs | $8.79 in mixed cases

2. 2014 Monte Oton Garnacha (Campo de Borja, Spain) – This is a Table Wine classic!  We’ve continuously stocked it since day one, July 29, 2010 to be exact.  100% Garnacha from hillside vineyards planted at an elevation of 1,200 feet on the southern side of the Moncayo mountain range, it represents one of the great red wine values in the world. No oak is used in this totally naked red. This fresh, medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, hedonistic as well as intellectually challenging wine should drink well for 2-3 years.
Tasting Price: $8.09 on mixed 3-packs | $7.64 on mixed 6-packs | $7.19 on mixed cases

3. 2014 Envinate Albahra (Almansa, Spain) – It’s our new Wine of the Week, and it’s one of the most distinctly delicious Spanish reds we’ve ever stocked.  100% Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet) from older, high altitude, organically farmed vineyards in Southeastern Spain, it is wonderfully fresh, soft, juicy and complex with notes of ripe red fruits, savory earth, and spice.  To read more about it, click here.
Tasting Price: $18.99 on mixed 3-packs | $18.69 on mixed 6-packs | $17.59 on mixed cases
Special Wine of the Week Price: $18.99/bottle or $16.99 on solid 6-packs

2. 2015 Jordanov Rkatciteli (Macedonia) – This ancient white grape is believed to be one of the oldest on the planet!  Marked by spicy and floral notes and bright citrus fruits, it makes for a refreshing and delicious white wine to pair with spicy Asian cuisine.
Tasting Price: $11.69/bottle | $11.04 in mixed six packs | $10.39 in mixed cases

3. 2015 Poggio Vignoso Chianti (Tuscany, Italy) – Chianti can be awful!  Many renditions lack the ripe fruit necessary to offset the natural acidity of Sangiovese.  Not this one!  Elegant, juicy and laced with dusty plum and dark cherry fruit, this would be great with a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
Tasting Price: $13.49/bottle | $12.74 in mixed six packs | $11.99 in mixed cases

4. 2014 Antonio Sanguineti Cannonau di Sardegna (Sardinia, Italy) – This has been a top seller most of the summer and we were able to get our hands on another 10 cases to use for this tasting.   100% Cannonau (aka Grenache) from the island of Sardinia, it’s rich, supple, and packed with flavors of ripe berries, spices, and just a hint of damp earth.

5. 2013 Casa Contini Brindisi Riserva (Puglia, Italy) – It’s our current Wine of the Week Selection, and it’s selling at a very rapid pace.  A combination of Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera, and Sangiovese, it tastes like a hypothetical cross between a complex, firm Barolo and a spicy rich Zinfandel.  Yum!

6. 2013 Perazzeta Erio Rosso Toscana (Tuscany, Italy) – Here’s a true Super Tuscan that won’t break the bank.  Alessandro Bocci and his daughter craft brilliant wines from their property in Montecucco just miles from the prized vineyards of Montalcino.  A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah aged in barrique for 18 months, this is rich, flashy and flamboyant red wine that could easily sell for $40+.
Tasting Price: $19.79/bottle | $18.69 in mixed six packs | $17.59 in mixed cases

7. 2015 Brunelli Poggio Apricale (Tuscany, Italy) – From the famed vineyards of Montalcino (Brunelli makes epic Brunello as well), this one is not aged long enough to be called Rosso or Brunello.  A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Colorino, this is an opulent and complex red wine marked by aromas and flavors of ripe berries, orange peel, spice, and a hint of leather.  It’s a ton of wine for the money!
Tasting Price: $17.99/bottle | $16.99 in mixed six packs | $15.99 in mixed cases

8. 2014 Verso Salento Rosso (Puglia, Italy) – Talk about a powerhouse of a wine!  This blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia is like a first rate Zin or Red Blend from California with just a splash of Italian Amarone.  Full bodied, super rich and ripe, and soft and supple on the palate, get ready to be blown away.
