1. 2016 Carpinus Tokaji Harslevelu (Tokaji, Hungary) – Talk about a super cool and delicious white! Harslevelu is one of the grape’s responsible for Hungary’s famed Tokaji, one of the great dessert wines in the world. This one isn’t sweet — nope, it’s fermented dry, yielding a fuller-styled, exotic white with notes of spice, flowers, and white peach.
2. 2014 Rolly Gassmann Pinot Blanc (Alsace, France) – This uber-traditional Alsatian producer’s Pinot Blanc blew our minds when we tasted it recently. Almost golden colored, with obvious notes of botrytis, it’s fat, plump, and hedonistic white wine. Look for notes of white peach, poached pear, honey and spice. Seriously world-class stuff that won’t break the bank.
3. 2015 Koehler Ruprecht Pinot Noir Kabinett Trocken (Pfalz, Germany) – If you blindfolded me and had me taste this one, I would swear it was from Burgundy. The quality of German Pinot Noir has risen dramatically as temperatures have risen, and the evidence is in this wine. Sensual, complex, and laced with spiced red fruits, forest floor, and silky tannin, it’s a ton of Pinot Noir for the money.
