The Wines

1. 2015 Xarmant Txakolina (Basque Region, Spain) – Andre was the importer responsible for introducing Americans to the wonderful wines of Txakolina, in the far northern Basque region of Spain. Xarmant (French for charming) is a great introduction to the style of white wine that is prevalent in the area. Based on a blend of several native grapes, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and bottled with residual carbon to give it its signature natural spritz. Super crunchy, crisp and palate awakening, this is required wine for drinking poolside or at the beach.

2. 2014 Garciarevalo “Casamaro” Blanco (Rueda, Spain) – Rueda is one of Spain’s top white wine zones, and Verdejo is the specialty of the region. This family domaine was established in 1991, and their combined vineyard holdings include some Verdejo vines that are over 130 years of age! Casamaro is 100% free run juice from mainly younger vines, fermented in stainless steel and bottled directly from the tanks. Kind of like Sauvignon Blanc, but a tad fuller, this is thirst quenching white wine does the trick on hot summer days. 90 points Vinous Media

3. 2014 Joan d’Anguera Montsant “Altaroses” (Catalonia, Spain) – Joan d’Anguera was one of De Maison’s first wineries and today, their wines are better than ever. Brothers Joan and Josep d’Anguera run the estate today, and their Altaroses is 100% Garnatxa from certified biodynamic and organic vineyards. Fermented in concrete with native yeasts and aged for 12 months in older oak barrels, this is an absolutely joyful wine. Ripe, warm red fruits and spices, soft tannin and an overall “chuggability” make this a Table Wine favorite!

4. 2009 Remelluri Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) – Remelluri is the stuff of legends and one of the crown jewels of Andre’s portfolio. Founded in 1967, this is one of the unofficial “Grand Crus” of Rioja, and it is run by the super talented and passionate Telmo Rodriguez. Composed primarily of organically cultivated Tempranillo with splashes and sprinkes of Garnacha, Graciano and a few other grapes, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and then aged for 17 months in barrels of various ages. The resulting wine is complex, savory, and in a league of its own. Enjoy! 93 points The Wine Advocate
