This Week-End’s Wine Tastings

We are the only Asheville wine store to offer two free wine tastings every week, and you’re invited to join us this Friday and Saturday.  This week-end, we’re celebrating the wonderful world of Spanish wines with back to back free wine tastings featuring some top new arrivals and some perennial favorites.

On Friday, March 13th, stop by any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “Try Three For Free.”  We’ll start with the 2013 Garciarevalo Casamaro Rueda Blanco, a fresh, zesty, Sauvignon Blanc-like blend of old vine Verdejo and Viura. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, this will have you thinking and dreaming about warm spring days.  Up next, the 2010 Torre de Ona Finca San Martin Rioja Crianza is quintessential, prototype Rioja abounding in aromas and flavors of zesty red fruit, earth and spice.  To finish up, we’ll hit you with a much more modern taste of Spanish wine with the 2012 Bodegas Ateca “Atteca Old Vines,” a 100% old vine Garnacha cuvée from the high altitude, dry and rugged vineyards of Calatayud, in North-Central Spain.  Aged in new French oak for ten months, this smoky, spicy, lushly fruited red will appeal to many.

Friday’s Lineup of Spanish Wines

Come back by on Saturday, March 14th any time between 2 and 5 p.m. for our “Try Before You Buy Tasting.”  We’ll be back on the Spanish wine trail and we’ll open with our first dry rosé arrival of 2015!  The 2014 Ostatu Rosado was one our best selling dry pink wines last year, and it’s just as good this year.  70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha from some of the estate’s oldest, highest altitude vineyards, it is light, bracing, and full of tart red fruit and floral aromas and flavors.  Up next, the 2013 Bodegas Borsao Monte Oton could easily qualify as the top red wine value in the world.  100% old vine Garnacha from Spain’s Campo de Borja region, this 89 point rated, under $8 red wine is packed with ripe, lush fruit and spice.  We’ll finish up with the 2012 Sierra Cantabria Rioja, another stunning Spanish red wine value.  100% Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel and aged for six months in used French and American oak, this pure, spicy, and earthy red wine makes for a great alternative to Pinot Noir.
