The Best Free Wine Tasting in Asheville – Saturday, August 1st from 2-5 p.m. – Although Spain makes plenty of notable whites, roses, and sparkling wines, the country’s wine reputation is largely based on the quality of her red wines. Join us to try a terrific trio of big Spanish red wines from various parts of the country. From savory Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon to a big, jammy red blend from the team at Southern Belle, this is guaranteed to be the best free wine tasting in Asheville this weekend. Stop by, taste, learn, and save up to 20% off on all of the tasting wines.
1. 2013 Federico Ribera del Duero Roble (Ribera del Duero) – Federico Fernandez is the brother of Alejandro Fernandez of Pesquera and Condado de Haza fame, and we are huge fans of his wines. Although this wine is pretty rich, savory, and full of dark berry fruit and spice, there’s an element of freshness and finesse here that you rarely see in the Tempranillo based wines of Ribera del Duero. All in all, this is a rock star of a wine in our opinions!
Tasting Price: $19.79/bottle | $18.69 in a mixed six pack | $17.59 in a mixed case
2. 2012 Vega Sindoa Cabernet Sauvignon (Navarra) – Although Spain isn’t especially well known for Cabernet Sauvignon, if they keep producing wines like this one, that might change. From way up north in Navarra, these Atlantic influenced vineyards yield a wine that is somewhat reminiscent of good, entry level Bordeaux. Aged in French oak for about a year, this extreme value Cabernet Sauvignon is classically style with a great mix of dark fruit, pepper, and spicy, toasty oak. 90 points Josh Raynolds – Vinous Media
Tasting Price: $12.59/bottle | $11.89 in a mixed six pack | $11.19 in a mixed case
3. 2013 Southern Belle Red Wine (Murcia) – This wine has stirred up a lot of discussion nationwide, and we were one of the first shops in the country to begin working with it. Importer Dan Phillips is the man behind this project and winemaker extraordinaire Chris Ringland crafts the wine. A blend of super ripe and decadent Syrah and Monastrell aged for 8 months in used Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrels, the finished wine is decadent, ripely fruited, and gently laced with vanillin, brown sugar, and spice notes. We’ve only got 5 cases to sell, so come and get it before it’s gone.
Tasting Price: $22.49/bottle | $21.24 in a mixed six pack | $19.99 in a mixed case
