South Asheville's Best Free Wine Tasting

What a simple premise – try wines before you buy them! That is one of the many value-added services we offer here at Table Wine that you won’t get at the grocery store or big box store. Come in, taste wines, ask questions, and give us your feedback. It’s simple, it’s fun, it’s educational…..how can you lose? Here is what we’ll be sampling this Saturday, August 25 from 2-5 p.m.

1. 2011 Conde Villars Vinho Verde – With summer winding down, there’s only so many days left to enjoy Vinho Verde, Portugal’s most popular white wine. It’s light, low in alcohol and slightly effervescent. Don’t worry, we won’t stop carrying this one, as it tastes good all year long in our opinion.

2. 2010 Schloss Muhlenhof Dornfelder Trocken – You know how much we love “liters of wine love” at the store and here’s one we haven’t visited in awhile. The grape is Dornfelder and it’s rich and fruit filled with a nice core of black cherry and blueberry fruit. It’s the perfect “sittin’ round the house chillin'” sort of red wine.

3. 2011Palama Primitivo “Arcangelo” – Since 1936, the Palama family has been making wine on their small estate in Puglia in southern Italy. This one bursts with fresh, purple-black fruit along with notions of vanilla and leather. Rustic and old-school, it is nonetheless an absolutely delicious red wine.

4. 2006 Montecastillo Priorat Crianza – This might be the best red wine value in the store. First of all, it’s from Priorat in northeastern Spain, and finding one of those for less than $20 is nearly impossible. Second of all, the wine has been matured for us and is in perfect drinking condition right now! A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in American oak for 18 months, it is full bodied and offers up aromas and flavors of ripe cherry and currant fruit along with complex notes of vanilla, cocoa and oak spice.
