Delicious, silky Red Burgundy for less than $15 and as low as $8.99? Has Josh lost his mind? Absolutely not! the 2016 Vignerons de Buxy Buissonier is my pick for the top Red Burgundy value of all time.
It delivers prototype aromas and flavors of red fruits and subtle earth/spice notes on a seamless and fine textured palate. No, it’s not Volnay or Gevrey-Chambertin, but man it’s delicious.

The Coteaux Bourguignons is a newer appellation that came into being in 2011. The name translates as “Burgundian hills,” and it’s a regional level appellation, covering all of Burgundy from the area around Auxerre down to Beaujolais. One of the key advantages to growers/producers is that Pinot Noir and Gamay can be used in red wine production. This allows producers to adjust the blend based on vintage conditions. And this ensures consistency from vintage to vintage.
And I’d say these folks got the blend 100% right with the 2016 vintage. A combination of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Gamay, the fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. Bottled without any oak aging, this bright, pure, and fragrant. Gorgeous notes of red cherry and raspberry meld nicely with more complex aromas of spice and earth. Soft, juicy and way too easy to drink, this is my new house red.
And it could be your new house red too! Enjoy this one with chicken, turkey, or pork dishes or if you’re not a meat eater, try it with a mushroom risotto. Or try it with nothing at all. It’s hard to put into words how easy this stuff goes down.
