Pra Soave Monte Grande 2017

One Of Italy's Finest Whites - Pra Soave Classico Monte Grande

SOLD OUT! Simply put, the Pra Soave Classico Monte Grande Classico is one of Italy’s greatest white wines. This single vineyard, powerful, mineral-rich wine delivers ripeness and volume without masking its terroir.

Vinous Media’s Ian d’Agata, who provides some of the most thoughtful Italian wine coverage out there, had this to say about the current release. “For my money, this is the Soave of the 2017 vintage.” I’ll get to more of Ian’s notes on this one later, but if you’re doing the Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas dinner this year, do yourself a favor and pick some of this up.

SOLD OUT

After a long absence in the North Carolina marketplace, Pra is back. And after tasting this incredible wine with my sales rep a few weeks back, I bought the entire 5 case allocation for the state. When you taste it, I think you’ll know why.

This is a different breed of Soave than most of the washed out, insipid wines produced from the flat, fertile-soiled vineyards of the region. Great wines come from special and uniquely situated vineyards, and Monte Grande is exactly that. Old vines, higher altitude and soils rich in basalt and volcanic elements yield denser are the hallmarks of Monte Grande. This leads to lower yields and a denser and more concentrated Soave.

White wine adventurers, please snag some of this — you will not be disappointed. There is a ton of sensory stuff going on in this Garganega/Trebbiano di Soave blend. Ian d’Agata nailed it: “Ripe apple, pear and sweet spices on the captivating nose. Ripe but vibrant in the mouth, with noteworthy density and complexity to its almond paste, yellow apple, beeswax and lemony flavors.” As I said before, this is not your typical Soave.

Time to wrap it up Josh. In closing, this is one of the top 2 or 3 white wines I tasted all year. I wish there was more available, but the estate only makes about 1,300 cases per year and this is a wine that many seek out. With Table wine offering it up at one of the best prices in the country, this will not be around for long.
