Asheville's Best Wine Tasting.

The Lighter Side of Wine

Join us this Friday, September 5th any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “wine down” your work week and get your week end off to a good start with the best wine tasting in Asheville! This week, we’re going to focus our attention on wines that are lighter in style. Just as music doesn’t have to be loud to be good, wine doesn’t have to be heavy to be tasty. And just because a wine isn’t deeply colored and full bodied doesn’t mean it lacks depth and flavor dimension. Don’t believe us? Stop by and we’ll change your mind.

We’ll start with the 2012 Domaine Jean Touzot Macon-Villages Vieilles Vignes, a 100% Chardonnay-based wine from the southern part of Burgundy. Completely fermented in stainless steel, this crunchy, green apple and citrus flavored wine truly demonstrates that not all Chardonnays are creamy, buttery and oaky. Next up, the 2013 Domaine des Cassagnoles Cotes de Gascogne Blanc is combines Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Gros Manseng to create a fresh, tart and clean white wine marked by notes of grapefruit, lemon zest and citrus blossom. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, you’ll probably love this one!

Moving into the reds, we’ll start with the 2012 Domaine Maurice Charleux Bourgogne Rouge, a 100% old vine Pinot Noir from the southern part of Burgundy that can’t be beat for the price. It comes from 50 year old vines just south of Santenay and is aged in tank and older oak barrels; packed with fresh and earthy/spicy notes of red fruits, it’s a true taste of Red Burgundy at a great price. After that, the 2013 Valle dell’Acate Frappato is one of the more unique and distinctive wines in the store. The Frappato grape is native to Sicily, a country known for producing big and bold red wines, but this one reminds us more of Pinot Noir or Beaujolais. Raspberry, cherry, earth and floral notes inform the nose and palate of this deliciously fresh and easy to drink red wine. And to finish up, we’ll stay in Sicily and pour you the 2012 Girolamo Russo Etna Rosso “A Rina,” a complete knockout of a wine from Mount Etna. From one of the top producers in the zone, the wine is primarily Nerello Mascalese (another native grape of Sicily) and tastes like a hypothetical blend of Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. You don’t want to miss this one! Join us as we explore the lighter side of wine and expand your palates this Friday.

Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix six of them, and 20% off if you mix twelve of them!
