Best Free Wine Tasting - Asheville, North Carolina

Great Wine Values Showdown - Free Saturday Tasting - Saturday, March 9, 2013 - 2:00 to 5:00

Join us this Saturday and every Saturday between 2 and 5 p.m. to taste some of our favorite value-priced wines. We refer to these selections as “Tuesday Night Wines”, because they’re perfectly suited to everyday, casual drinking with or without foods. It’s fun, it’s casual and it’s unpretentious. What do you have to lose?

This week, we’ll be sampling out 4 wines, including a value-priced, delicious California white and the first dry rosé from the 2012 vintage in France. In addition, we’ll have a little “Battle of the Montepulcianos”, as we pit two very good contenders up against each other. Join us to taste and learn every Saturday at Table Wine.

The Wines
Prices range from $7 to $15

1. Mountain View Vineyards Mountain White
This fun and fruity blend of Colombard, Chenin Blanc and Gewurztraminer goes down too easy! It is a simple, no fuss white that should come with a straw attached to it.

2. 2012 Reine Juliette Picpoul de Pinet
Picpoul is an ancient French varietal that thrives along the Mediterranean coast. It produces a fresh and dry white wine with notes of fresh citrus, herbs, mineral and salty air.

3. 2011 Friso Montepulciano d’Abruzz
Montepulciano is the grape and it loves Italy’s Adriatic Coast. I challenge you not to like this wine. It is nicely colored and packed with supple, soft dark berry fruit, cocoa and spice notes.

4. 2007 Casa Contini Biferno Riserva
I really don’t know why we still have this wine in stock as it might be the best QPR wine in the store. A blend of 85% Montepulciano and 15% Aglianico, it is the current release of the wine. Ripe berry and black cherries galore with complex spice and smoky vanilla notes for under $15 equals a great value that will continue to drink well all summer with meats off the grill.
