Foxglove Winery Tasting

Great Values From Foxglove Winery

Stop by this Friday, February 20th any time between 4 and 7 p.m. for a free wine tasting featuring the wines of Foxglove Winery. Twin brothers Jim and Bob Varner make award winning, highly rated, somewhat pricey wines under their Varner and Neely labels, but these are usually hard to come by. We get maybe a case or two of these coveted Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs each year, but we rarely run out of their Foxglove wines. Their Foxglove label produces about 25,000 cases annually of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel from purchased Central Coast fruit, mainly from Paso Robles. These wines offer some of the best QPR (quality to price ratio) of any that we taste from California every year, and you’re invited to come taste them for free.

The Wines
Prices start at $15/bottle

1. 2012 Foxglove Chardonnay – “Lemon oil, white flowers, mint and slate meld together in the 2012 Chardonnay. Racy and beautifully layered on the palate, this tank-fermented, non-malo Chardonnay delivers exceptional quality for the money.” Antonio Galloni – 89 points, The Wine Advocate – 89 points

2. 2012 Foxglove Zinfandel – “The 2012 Zinfandel is gorgeous. Sweet red berries, leather, mint, tobacco and cedar are some of the notes that emerge from the glass in a floral, unoaked Zinfandel with distinct Pinot-inflected overtones. This is another superb value from Foxglove.”
Antonio Galloni – 89 points, The Wine Advocate – 88 points

3. 2012 Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon – “Foxglove’s 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is without question one of the finest values in California. Dark red cherry, plum, grilled herbs, smoke and tobacco are some of the many notes that inform this vibrant, polished impeccable Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in Paso Robles. Aging in steel keeps the flavors fresh and vibrant throughout.” Antonio Galloni – 88 points
