Friday Winedown

Friday Winedown

Table Wine is the perfect spot to “winedown” your week and get your week end off to a good start. What better way to do so than by tasting a bunch of good wines?! This Friday, October 26 the lovely Anne Kaufmann will join us to pour a diverse and eclectic batch of wines from all over the world. Every tried a Kerner? Do you like 92 point rated Riojas and/or 2009 Bordeaux? If you answered yes to any of these, you might want to join us this Friday.

Take a look at the lineup and plan to just stop by anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. this Friday. The cost for the tasting is just $5/person or it’s free if you’re a Grape Nut. Light palate cleansers will be offered as well.

1. 2010 Talbott Chardonnay “Kali Hart” – The Talbott make some of California’s most highly regarded Chardonnay from their estate vineyards in Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands. If you like your Chardonnay creamy, buttery and rich, you’re going to love this one. It is rich and creamy with aromas and flavors of buttered tropical fruits, spiced apple and vanilla-scented peach.

2. 2011 Abazzia di Novacella Kerner – Kerner is a highly aromatic varietal that was bred in 1929 by crossing the Trollinger grape with Riesling. Highly planted in Germany, it reaches its fullest potential in northeastern Italy, and Abazzia di Novacella is highly regarded for their version. With a nose similar to a Gewurztraminer, this dry, spicy, rich, mineral scented wine is completely unique and fun. It would make a perfect partner to Thanksgiving dinner.

3. 2010 Milbrandt Riesling “Traditions” – As renowned grape growers supplying fruit to many wineries in Washington state, Jerry and Butch Milbrandt are applying the same dedication to their own namesake wines. Their Riesling is finely balanced and just off-dry with aromas and flavors of ripe apricots, peaches, lush grapefruit, and a hint of spice that combine subtle sweetness with a crisp refreshment.

4. 2006 Bodegas Breton Lorinon Rioja Reserva – Founded in 1983, Bodegas Breton owns some very fine vineyards in the Alta zone of Rioja, generally considered the finest spot in the region. Their 2006 Rioja Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano aged 22 months in oak and a further 12 in bottle prior to release. It sports a nose of concentrated red and black fruits, followed by nuances of Asian spices, pipe tobacco and vanilla.

5. 2009 Chateau de Brondeau Bordeaux Superieur – We are glad to welcome back an old friend! Many of you enjoyed the stylings of this Merlot-heavy blend from the fabulous 2009 vintage in Bordeaux when we poured it several months back. It’s back and it’s the same vintage – this opaque purple-colored 2009 reveals oodles of black currant and boysenberry fruit intermixed with notions of graphite, smoke, and velvety tannins.

6. 2010 Jeff Runquist “1448” Red Blend – This small family winery is located at 1448 feet in elevation in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. A blend of 58% Petite Sirah, 16% Barbera, 10% Petit Verdot and smaller amounts of Cab, Zinfandel and a few others, this kitchen sink cuvée is bold, rich and voluptuous with creamy dark berry fruit, ample toasty oak and abundant spice and vanilla.

7. 2009 Foppiano Vineyards Petite Sirah – Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Foppiano, Foppiano Vineyards is one of Sonoma County’s oldest continually-operated, family-owned wineries. The family has established itself as one of California’s leading producers of Petite Sirah, and here’s your chance to try it. Full bodied and chunky, it offers up notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit along with peppery spice, vanilla and dark chocolate on the finish.
