Friday Wine Tasting: California Dreaming

This Friday, May 30, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. — $5/person……Free for Grape Nuts — Join us every Friday any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “wine down” your work week and get your week end off to a good start with the best wine tasting in Asheville! This week, we’re pouring an awesome lineup of California wines that are guaranteed to please even the most discerning palates.

We’ll start the tasting with the 2012 Matchbook Chardonnay “Old Head”, a classically styled, rich, creamy, and toasty California Chardonnay. It has just enough acidity to make it a perfect match for creamy seafood pasta, but this one is even more ideal as a stand-alone, aperitif white wine. Next up is the lovely, low production, 2013 Lioco Indica Rosé, from one of our favorite California producers. Composed entirely of Mendocino County Carignane, this dry and invigorating pink wine practically begs you to come back for a second glass. Try it with seared tuna or salmon and fresh greens and vegetables.

The first red is the 2012 Rickshaw Pinot Noir, and it qualifies as one of the best under $20 Pinot Noir values out there. Made by the talented team at Banshee, the 2012 takes advantage of the great conditions of the 2012 vintage and just sings with pure Pinot prettiness — cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and strawberry make this the perfect, light to medium bodied red wine to enjoy on warm days. We’ll follow that one up with the 2013 Folk Machine Parts & Labor from our friend Kenny Likitprakong. Kenny was here a few months back and told us how good this wine, a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carginane, was going to be. He underspoke! This is a triumphant wine packed with juicy, spice, floral infused red fruits and it goes down way to easy. We’ll finish the tasting with the 2012 Banshee Mordecai, a wine that includes primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, but that also includes several other grape varieties. The warmth of the 2012 vintage has yielded a juicy, spicy, brambly red wine that would pair beautifully with pit barbecue or a medium rare steak. Stop by, taste, learn and save every Friday at Table Wine!

Don’t forget, All six tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix six of them, and 20% off if you mix twelve of them!
