Michel Gassier is definitely on a hot streak with all of the wines he produces in partnership with importer Eric Solomon and viticultural guru Philippe Cambie. He’s the same guy that makes the Cercius Cotes du Rhone that everyone loves, but he also has a a very apt hand with his white wines as evidenced by this beauty.
The wine is a blend of organically grown, old vine Grenache Blanc (90%), Viognier (5%) and Roussanne (5%) fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for 6 months. “I know some readers will find it hard to believe, but the 2011 Nostre Pais Blanc’s aromas and rich, honeyed, full-bodied texture reminded me of the famous white Chateauneuf du Pape made by Chateau Beaucastel, which sells for three or more times the price.”That is a bold statement made by none other than Robert Parker who went on to award the wine a 93 point score!
We agree with his assessment of the wine. It is a full bodied, exotic and intensely aromatic white wine with a lovely core of white peach, quince and pineapple fruit. As the wine sits in the glass for a few minutes, more floral, honeysuckle and dried honey notes emerge. With wonderful texture and body and plenty of intensity, this is our pick for joyful, cooler weather white wine drinking.
