Southern Rhone Wine Tasting

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Saturday, June 13th from 2-5 p.m. – Rich and Spicy Wines from France’s Southern Rhone – France’s Southern Rhone Valley is noted for producing some of the best wine values in the world.  Grenache reigns supreme in the region, producing reds with lots of rich and ripe red fruit along with spice and earth accents.  However, the region’s producers are making better whites than ever and many are experimenting with alternative varietals.  Join us this Saturday for a Southern Rhone Wine Tasting where you’ll get to try our new Case of the Month selection along with a couple of other noteworthy selections.  Taste, learn, and save up to 20% off every Saturday at Table Wine

The Wines

1. 2014 Chateau La Tour de Béraud Costières de Nimes Blanc – The white wines of the Southern Rhone are typically exotic, aromatic, and medium to full bodied in style and this one definitely expresses those characteristics. A traditional blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Vermentino, and Viognier, it is a beautiful white wine that offers up notes of yellow plum, peach, honeysuckle, and litchi.  Medium to full bodied, but fresh and zesty at the same time, this is the perfect wine to pair with richer seafood dishes.
Tasting Price: $15.29/bottle | $14.44/bottle in mixed six pack | $13.59/bottle in mixed case

2. 2012 Domaine de Couron Merlot – You read that right, Merlot is cultivated in the Southern Rhone and we really like the results.  The small family owned and operated, practicing organic estate of Domaine Couron works with Merlot vines that were planted in 1974 with rootstock that originally came from Pomerol, Bordeaux.  Medium bodied, fresh, and exhibiting notes of herb and spice accented cherry and mulberry fruit, this makes for a perfect “house red.”
Tasting Price: $9.89/bottle | $9.34/bottle in mixed six pack | $8.79/bottle in mixed case

3. 2012 Chateau La Tour de Béraud Costières de Nimes Rouge – This is a classic Southern Rhone red and it’s your chance to try before you buy our new Case of the Month selection.  A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Marselan, this just explodes out of the glass with aromas and flavors of spicy kirsch, raspberry, plum and garrigue.  If you’re grilling out any time soon, here’s a wine that would work with just about anything.
