Beyond the Fruit – Exploring Spice, Earth and Mineral Nuances in Wine – We are the only Asheville wine store to offer two free wine tastings every week, and you’re invited to join us this Friday and Saturday. We’re really excited about this week-end’s lineups, as we’re going to pour wines that offer more than just fruit aromas and flavors. How does wine, which is made out of fruit, express aromas and and flavors of spice, earth, mineral, and sometimes funky barnyard? Stop by this week-end, taste some fine examples of wines that offer these notes and we’ll explain further.
On Friday, March 27th, stop by any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “Try Three For Free.” We’ll start with one of our featured wines the 2013 Jean-Paul Brun Beaujolais Blanc “Terres Dorées”, one of the great Chardonnay and White Burgundy values in the world. From very old vines, this one shows plenty of ripe apple and pear, but there’s an underlying spice and wet stone character to the wine that gives it a complexity rarely encountered in White Burgundy that sells for less than $20. Up next, the 2012 Bodegas Aragonesas Don Ramon Tinto is a blend of 75% Garnacha and 25% Tempranillos from Spain’s Campo de Borja region. Both of these grapes have a natural spiciness to them, and it’s very evident in this extreme value that exudes aromas and flavors of peppery red fruit. To finish up, we’ll hit you with one of our favorite new reds, the 2012 Domaine la Manarine Cotes du Rhone. 100% Grenache from organically farmed vineyards and fermented with native yeasts, this savory, spicy, earthy red is a must try for fans of Cotes du Rhone and Grenache alike.
We’ll be back pouring more fun stuff on Saturday, March 28th, so stop by any time between 2 and 5 p.m. to “Try Before You Buy.” We’ll be pouring and exploring more mineral and earth nuanced wines from France’s Savoie and Loire Valley regions on this day. First up, the 2013 J.P. and J.F. Quénard Chignin is a white wine that we think you’re gonna’ love. 100% Jacquere, one of the native grapes of Savoie, this super dry, mineral laced white tastes so unbelievably good on warm, sunny days. Up next, the 2013 Domaine Ricard Touraine “Le Petiot” is a superb introduction to Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The young Vincent Ricard is making some of the best white wines in the appellation and this one jumps out at you with piercing notes of citrus, green herb, and wet stone notes. We’ll wrap things up with a red, the 2013 Marc Plouzeau Chinon “Rive Gauche.” 100% Cabernet Franc, the Loire Valley’s most important red grape, it exhibits savory aromas and flavors of dark cherry, tobacco, damp earth and spice.
Last, but not least, our week-end wine tastings are not only fun and educational, they are also the perfect time to save on our featured tasting wines. All tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any six of them, or 20% off if you mix any twelve or more of them. Taste, learn, and save every week-end at Table Wine!
