Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tastings

Spanish Sensations this Friday and New Dry Rosés on Saturday!!! We are the only Asheville wine store to offer two free wine tastings every week, and you’re invited to join us this Friday and Saturday.  We’ll wow you with a trio of new Spanish wine arrivals, including the 91 point rated 2011 Palacios Remondo Rioja “La Montesa,” this Friday from 4 to 7.  And we’ll be back on Saturday from 2 to 5 with our first dry rosé tasting of the season.  The new batch of 2014 dry pink wines have started flowing into the store, and we can’t wait to pop some corks and share some of them with you.

The fun starts on Friday, April 3rd, and you’re invited to stop by any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “Try Three For Free.”  We’ll start with one of our favorite warm weather whites, the 2014 Avinyo Petillant “Vi d’Gulla,” a dry and lightly fizzy wine composed of 80% Muscat and 20% Macabeu.  Low in alcohol and high in gulpability, it’s kind of like Vinho Verde, but better and with more “stuff” going on.  Up next, the 2011 Palacios Remondo Rioja “La Montesa” is a 91 point rated (The Wine Advocate) red that is more than deserving of that praise.  Medium bodied, silken in texture, and packed with ripe red fruits, exotic spices, earth and vanilla notes, you’re going to fall in love with this one.  To finish up, we’ll sample you on a new wine for us and what promises to be a new grape for you.  The 2013 Atance Bobal is composed entirely of Spain’s native Bobal grape and it’s a dark fruited, peppery, moderately powerful red that shows great poise and polish.

We’ll be back pouring more fun stuff on Saturday, April 4th, so stop by any time between 2 and 5 p.m. to “Try Before You Buy.”  With spring upon us, we’re psyched to be having our first dry rosé sampling of the season.  That’s right, it will be nothing but dry, delicious, and thirst quenching pink wines, and we’ll start with the 2014 L’Oliveto Rosé of Pinot Noir from California’s Russian River Valley.  Light, crisp, and laced with delicate red fruits, flowers and light spice, this one will get your mouth watering.  Next up, the 2014 Barnard Griffin Sangiovese Rosé is one of our favorites and a perennial best seller from Washington’s Columbia Valley.  Riper and more overt, it tastes of sun ripened strawberries, raspberries and cherries, but it remains dry and delightful.  We’ll finish up with a little something different, the 2014 Ippolito 1845 “Mabilia” Ciro Rosato hails from Calabria in Southern Italy.  Composed entirely of Gaglioppo, one of the main red grapes of the region, this one just blasts out of the glass with fresh red fruits, spring flowers, and bright acidity.
