Free Wine Tasting – Louis/Dressner French Selections – Saturday, March 3rd

Saturday, March 3rd from 2-5pm – Join us for a free wine tasting featuring a trio of Louis/Dressner French selections.  If you like real-deal, authentic, naturally made French wines, do not miss this tasting.  Trust me!

All of the Louis/Dressner growers and producers are committed to natural viticulture, hand harvesting, low yields, wild yeast fermentations, and non-interventionist winemaking.  Their wines are natural expressions of their respective terroirs and cultural traditions, and most importantly, they’re delicious!  Stop by the store this Saturday to taste one of my favorite Sancerres on the planet, along with a screaming value Languedoc red and a serious and structured Fleurie.  It’s Asheville’s best free wine tasting, and you’re invited!  Just stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines.

1. 2016 Domaine Thomas-Labaille “L’Authentique” Sancerre (Loire Valley, France) – This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite growers in Sancerre.  Their L’Authentique bottling is aptly named, as it is produced without the use of cultured yeasts or enzymes.  Fermented in stainless steel, this one offers up classic notes of crisp citrus, green pear, and chalky minerality along with subtle notes of green herb and pepper.  It is sensational!

2. 2016 Chateau d’Oupia Les Heretiques (Languedoc, France) – This is one of the all time great house wines.  From 40+ year old, organically cultivated Carignan vineyards, half of the wine is fermented via whole cluster carbonic maceration while the other half is fermented in neutral oak with a 30 day maceration.  Fresh, juicy, and packed with spicy berry fruit, this is a ridiculous value.

3. 2016 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie (Beaujolais, France) – Alain Coudert produces some of the finest Fleurie on the planet.  Originally classified as Moulin-a-Vent, his old vines yield a more powerful, structured, and savory wine.  The 2016 is gorgeous with a core of raspberry and cherry fruit, along with more complex notes of earth, violet, spice, and leather.  Although delicious now, this one really evolves nicely with 3 to 5 years in the cellar.
