Free Wine Tasting – Fresh and Summery Italian Wines – Friday, June 29

Friday, June 29th from 4-7pm – It’s Asheville’s best free wine tasting, and you’re invited! Stop by to try some fresh and summery Italian wines, including our new Case of the Month.

Italian wines are perfect candidates for summer drinking. Why you ask? Because so many of them are super fresh, zesty and thirst-quenching! Italians are fond of enjoying wine with food, and acidity is crucial to making this combination work. That’s what we’ll be serving up this Friday — a couple of crisp and refreshing whites along with the perfect summer red. All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save. We look forward to seeing you!

1. 2017 Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi “Macrina” (Marche, Italy) – Garofoli has a terrific reputation for Verdicchio, and this is a great introduction to the house style. Super fresh and almost Muscadet-like in its purity, this one brims with notes of lemon, green apple, herb, spice, and mineral. One of the all-time-great seafood whites, this is also a great one for porch, pool, or beach sipping.

2. 2016 Bidoli Sauvignon Blanc (Friuli, Italy) – Produced from the rocky soils of Friuli’s Grave zone, this is stunning Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.  Laced with notes of green fig, lime, white flowers, and rocky minerality, it will provide cooling refreshment during the dog days of summer.

3. 2016 Paolo Petrilli Motte del Lupo (Puglia, Italy) – It’s our new Case of the Month, and Jay Murrie of Durham’s Piedmont Wine Imports brings this one to us from a small, certified organic estate based in Lucera in the heel of Italy’s boot.  It is one of the most charming Southern Italian reds I’ve ever tried.  A stainless steel fermented blend of Nero di Troia, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and the rarely seen Bombino Bianco, it is much lighter and fresher than most Puglian reds.  Bright notes of cherry, plum, herbs and spice flow through this extreme Italian red wine value.  Yum!
