For this Saturday’s tasting, it’s more new stuff! We’ll start with a brand new, fresh and frothy Vinho Verde from Portugal before we pour you a lovely, no oak Chardonnay from central Italy. Next up, we’ll try a Cab-heavy blend from South Africa before we finish up with a big, fat, ripe Primitivo (Italian Zinfandel) from Puglia. We’ve got a little something for everyone this Saturday, so just stop on by!
The Wines You’ll Get To Try
1. 2011 Aveleda Vinho Verde “Fonte” (Portugal)
Just awarded 87 points from Wine Spectator, Aveleda’s new Vinho Verde is as good as ever. The quintessential summertime, beach-friendly white wine, this one is dry, bright and a bit fizzy with lots of green apple, citrus and floral notes.
2. 2011 Vallevo Chardonnay (Le Marche, Italy)
Stainless steel fermented Chardonnays are quite delightful in the warmer months. Lacking the thickness and toasty/roasty notes that Chardonnay often gets labelled with, this one pops out of the glass with fresh apple, pear and citrus notes. Perfect for front or back porch patio pounding!
3. 2012 Indaba Mosaic (Western Cape, South Africa)
Here’s a Cab-heavy blend that isn’t too heavy! 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, with other Bordeaux varietals playing a supporting role, this is just lip-smacking good with lots of nice cherry, raspberry and spice notes and round, supple tannin.
4. 2011 Poggio Anima Primitivo (Puglia, Italy)
We’ll finish with a big one! 100% Primitivo from the heel of Italy’s boot, this is dark, nearly opaque in color and offers up fat notes of blueberry, blackberry and smoky chocolate. Try it with some babyback ribs and call it a night!
