Free on Fridays Wine Tasting - Selections from Spain's La Rioja Alta

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting this Friday, February 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 – Spanish Wines from Spain’s famed La Rioja Alta – La Rioja Alta is one of the undisputed “First Growths” of Rioja and is considered one of the greatest estates in the world. The winery is revered for their long aged, traditionally styled Riojas, but they also own and manage some other estates in some of Spain’s most prized regions. Outside of Rioja, they own Lagar de Cervera in Albarino and Bodegas Aster in Ribera del Duero. We are fans of all of their wines and you are invited to stop by and taste some of their finest offerings this Friday! Stop by, taste, learn, and save up to 20% off on all of the featured tasting wines.

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

The Wines

1. 2013 Lagar de Cervera Albarino (Rias Baixas, Spain) – We love the balance of this Albarino! Richer and weightier than most versions, it exudes exotic aromas and flavors of mixed tropical fruits, peach, and grassy, herbal nuances. With great balancing acidity to the richness of fruit, this is an exceptional version of one of Spain’s top white grapes.

2. 2012 Torre de Ona Finca San Martin Rioja Crianza (Rioja Alavesa, Spain) – It’s our Wine of the Weeks and it’s one of the greatest values in Rioja on the market. 100% Tempranillo, the wine is aged for 16 months in a combination of new American oak and used French oak. Medium bodied, richly fruited, and possessing a complex mix of exotic spices and earthy nuances, this softly textured red is a ton of wine for the money.

3. 2008 La Rioja Alta Rioja Reserva “Vina Alberdi” (Rioja Alta, Spain) – This is one of the benchmark wines of the Rioja region and the 2008 is the current release. 100% Tempranillo aged for two years in American oak and another year in bottle before release, it offers up the classic flavors of traditional Rioja. Dried red fruits, beef stock, leather, licorice and an assortment of other aromas and flavors inform the nose and palate of this deeply complex wine. 91 points The Wine Advocate
