Up first, the 2013 Giocato Pinot Grigio hails from Slovenia is made by iconic winemaker Edi Simcic. Fuller bodied and richer than most Pinot Grigios in the under-$15 category, it offers up an enticing mix of ripe apple and pear fruit buttressed by flowers, spice and mineral. Up next, the 2013 Domaine Amido Merlot is an exceptional version of the grape that everyone loves to hate. Stop hating and start drinking on this lush, spicy, full bodied red from one of our favorite Cotes du Rhone producers. To finish up, the 2011 Fattoria del Cerro Rosso di Montepulciano just garnered a 91 point score from Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media. From the Tuscan village of Montepulciano (not based on the grape), it is a traditionally styled blend of Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and Mammolo. Medium bodied and highly expressive, you will be hard pressed to find a better Italian red for less than $15.
