The Wines

1. 2010 Edi Simcic Malvazija (Goriska Brda, Slovenia) – Adventurous wine drinkers take note — this is one of the most exotic and singular wines in the store.  Edi Simcic’s vineyards are situated in the western part of Slovenia, just across the border from Italy’s Friuli zone.  From an organic, dry farmed, old vine, hand harvested vineyard, this wine is barrel fermented and then aged for 11 months in barrel and another 6 months in bottle before release.  Rich and intensely aromatic, it is somewhat reminiscent of a White Rhone with an intriguing mix of honeyed fruit, beeswax, ginger and green herbs.
Special One Day Tasting Price: $35.99/bottle

2. NV Elvio Tintero Langhe Rosso (Piemonte, Italy) – Cantine Elvio Tintero’s little Vino Rosso is one of the cheapest ways to get Nebbiolo into your belly!  A blend of 40% Nebbiolo, 40% Barbera, 10% Dolcetto, and 10% Cabernet Franc fermented entirely in stainless steel, this is a real charmer.  Bright, light, tangy and bursting with bright red fruits and a touch of earth, this is an absolute no brainer for Pinot and Gamay admirers.
Tasting Price: $10.79 in mixed 3-packs | $10.19 in mixed 6-packs | $9.59 in mixed cases

3. 2014 Indie Cuvees Vino del Popolo Rosso (Piemonte, Italy) – Importer Indie Wineries has crafted a literal “wine for the people” using the Piemonte’s three most noble varieties.  A blend of 45% Nebbiolo, 35% Barbera, and 20% Dolcetto, the wine is fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts.  The result is an utterly charming, fruit filled red wine with fabulous purity and sheer chuggability.
