The Wines
1. 2013 Uppercut Chardonnay (Napa County, California) – For those looking for a rich, barrel fermented, creamy style of Chardonnay at a great price, this is your wine. Winemaker Chris Cooney has access to some great fruit from a number of vineyards scattered throughout Napa County, and he crafts a very crowd pleasing style of Chardonnay. Spiced apple, baked pear, vanilla and oak spice inform the nose and palate of creamy textured Chardonnay.
2. 2012 Burgess Merlot (Napa Valley, California) – Burgess is one of Napa’s veteran producers and their Merlot is always top notch. From the glorious 2012 vintage, this is Merlot that should appeal to Cab drinkers. Full bodied, richly fruited, and offering up good depth and complexity, this wine is screaming for filet mignon.
3. 2012 Hill Family Barrel Blend (Napa Valley, California) – Doug Hill and his family are fourth generation grape growers with vast holdings scattered throughout Napa. After three decades of growing grapes for some of Napa’s top wineries, they decided to start making their own wines. We’re glad they did! Their Barrel Blend is made in conjunction with pro surfer and wine lover Kenny Knox and it is a 7-grape blend driven by 65% Merlot. Super rich, creamy, and boasting flamboyant flavors of creme de cassis, warm plum, cedar, spice box, and dark chocolate, this wine is a total knockout.
