Italian Wine Tasting

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting - Awesome Italian Wines

Free Wine Tasting at Table Wine this Friday, May 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. featuring some seriously awesome Italian wines. Get your weekend off to a grand start with the best free wine tasting in Asheville! This week, we’re serving up a really nice lineup of new arrival Italian wines that are sure to bring a smile to your face. With somewhere around 350 different grape varieties grown throughout the country, Italian wines offer something for everyone. We’ll kick things off with one of favorite new whites in the store, a crisp and sunny Locorotondo from the Puglian coast. Next up, we have one of our favorite Italian dry roses — a pale colored, beautifully aromatic version from Giorgio Rivetti’s famed La Spinetta estate. We’ll finish up with Chianti from Tuscany’s famed Selvapiana estate — trust me, their 2013 is delicious and shows more roundness and softness than most Chiantis. All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn and save up to 20% off on all of the tasting wines.

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

The Wines

1. 2014 I Pastini Antico Locorotondo Bianco (Puglia, Italy) – Locorotondo is a town of roughly 14,000 located along Italy’s southeastern Adriatic coast, and it is listed as one of the most beautiful villages of Italy. Taste this unique white wine, based on a blend of Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano, and Fiano Minutolo, and be transported to one of the most beautiful parts of Italy…….sort of. Nicely dry and possessing aromas and flavors of fresh flowers, citrus, mineral and sea air, this would be the perfect wine to wash down fried calamri or any range of seafood dishes……..or no food at all of course!

2. 2015 La Spinetta Il Rose di Casanova (Tuscany, Italy) – Trust me folks, this is one of the best dry roses of the 2015 vintage! Giorgio Rivetti just doesn’t make bad wine, whether it be his award winning Barolos, Barbarescos and Barberas or his groundbreaking Tuscan wines. His dry rose comes from a single parcel of Sangiovese vines called “Casanova,” and despite its pale color, it really packs a punch. Smelling of fresh peach, summer strawberry, white flowers and mineral, it hits the palate with a round and rich texture. Don’t miss your chance to try this because there’s not much left to sell!

3. 2013 Selvapiana Chianti Rufina (Tuscany, Italy) – I poured this wine at a private tasting last week, and when folks saw I was pouring Chianti, many weren’t overly excited…….until the first person took a sip and loudly pronounced it as the best Chianti she had ever tasted. Thank God for people like that! Selvapiana is one of the top Chianti producers, and they are not even in the Classico zone. Their wines show classic Tuscan pedigree, but tend to me more elegant and fine grained than most of their peers. This one truly shows those traits — silky cherry and plum fruit mingle with mellow mineral and dusty herb notes. Lovely with all sorts of foods (from chicken to beef), this one really just needs a big glass!
