Focus on Tuscany - Wine Tasting - Saturday, August 10th

Saturday, August 10th from 2-5pm – We’ll focus on Tuscany for our free wine tasting on August 10th. The region has experienced a series of great vintages, and we’ll pour some highly acclaimed wines from 2015 and 2016. Don’t miss it!

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Just stop by – we’ve got plenty of free parking!

We love Tuscan wines and we’re looking forward to sharing some of our favorites with you for this tasting. When the conditions are optimal, like they were in the 2015 and 2016, the region’s Sangiovese grape yields ripe, forward, and opulent red wines. And that’s going to be a big focus on this day. But we’re sneaking in one delicious white before we hit the reds of Chianti, Montepulciano, and Suvereto. Prepare to be amazed! And all you’ve got to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save.

All of the featured tasting wines are 20% off by the bottle on tasting day only.

1. 2017 Montenidoli Vernaccia di San Gimignano – You’ve not had Vernaccia until you’ve had Vernaccia from Sergio and Elisabetta Fagiuoli. Whereas most Vernaccia is bright, fresh, and straightforward, the Fagiuoli’s version is deeper, richer and more complex, no doubt due the long maceration on the skins. This one is more golden colored, rounder, and it offers up mysterious notes of fennel, potent herb, almond, and candied lemon.

2. 2017 Barbanera Ser Passo – Here’s a fun and easy to understand Tuscan red that sells for a song. Primarily Sangiovese, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it’s ripe, lush, and ideal for all sorts of occasions.

3. 2015 Pietralta Chianti – This is serious, small grower/producer Chianti at an incredible price. From certified organic vineyards planted back in 1968 (that’s old!), the wine is comprised of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Canaiolo and Colorino. “Aromas of plum, dark cherry, spice, and complex earth notes lead into a zesty, bold palate of dark fruit and spice. Fine-grained tannins, classic acidity, terrific wine.” – Josh Spurling – 92 points

4. 2015 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – When it comes to Vino Nobile, very few do it much better than Avignonesi. And their 2015 will be one of the highest rated wines of the year……guaranteed. The hot and dry conditions of the vintage yielded a flashier and more flamboyant red, marked by notes of ripe cherry, plum, licorice and mixed herbs. Enjoy this medium to fuller bodied red with pasta and Italian sausage and peppers in a rich tomato sauce.

5. Surprise Wine – We’ll end with a stunning Super Tuscan from one of the region’s superstar producers. We’ll only open 1 bottle of this one. Come early!
