Focus on French and Spanish Wines from Importer Eric Solomon

Stop by the store this Saturday, September 13th any time between 2 and 5 p.m. for an educational and free wine tasting. This Saturday, Mike Kolker from Freedom Beverage will join us to pour a sensational lineup of wines from master importer Eric Solomon’s portfolio. Every single one of the wines has registered a 90+ point score from The Wine Advocate, and we’re extremely excited to share all of these new arrivals with you.

We’ll start with the 2013 Domaine Lafage Cuvée Centenaire, a wine that The Wine Advocate called one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s a blend of 100+ year old Grenache Blanc and Roussanne that charms with notes of white currant, peach, mineral and exotic spices. Next up, the 2012 Domaine Lafage Cuvée Nicolas is 100% Grenache from old vines in France’s Roussillon region. Round, supple, heady and exotic, this is a Grenache lovers dream bottle. We move into the Rhone Valley next with the 2012 Domaine de la Janasse Reserve Cotes du Rhone, a classic Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Clicking on all cylinders, it exhibits tons of dark cherry, blackberry, spice and mineral on a full bodied, rich and textured palate.

As good as Eric Solomon does in selecting wines from France, he does an equally good job in Spain. The 2012 Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero “Pruno” is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich, powerful, layered and complex, it displays aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, sweet tobacco, licorice, graphite and spice box; drink this big red now or over the next 5 to 7 years. And to finish up, we’ll pour you a splash of the 2012 Bodegas Castano Yecla “Solanera,” a big and bold blend of Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Full bodied, intensely flavored, and nicely textured, this 94 point rated red will make your head spin. We can guarantee you that this will be Asheville’s best free wine tasting on this day, so all you have to do is stop by, taste, learn and save. We’ll see you this Saturday.

Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off when you mix any six of them and 20% off if you mix twelve!
