Extreme Portuguese Wine Values

Extreme Portuguese Red Wine Values – Try Before You Buy Tasting – Saturday, September 14th, 2013 – 2:00 to 5:00

Portugal is a hotbed of extreme red wine values, and we’ve been saying it since we opened over three years ago.  The country’s difficult economic situation is being exploited by importers, and both of the wines we’ll pour this Saturday are evidence of that.  Both come to you at less than $12 per bottle and both scored 89 points via The Wine Spectator………..and we concur with those scores!  Don’t worry if you don’t know the grapes or the regions; just come by and try them!  Here are the wines we’ll have open to try:

1. 2010 Quinta de Cabriz Tinto (Dao, Portugal)
Find us a better red wine value and we’ll give you a free bottle of wine!  We’ve carried this one since we opened in 2010, and it remains one of our g0-to wines for customers looking for a wine that tastes like $20, but costs about $10.  The current release is focused and a little bit “wild”, with a mineral edge to the dried cherry and plum fruit.  It finishes with ample tannin and a nice smoky herb nuance.

2. 2010 Quinta do Encontro Tinto (Bairraida, Portugal)
This is a big wine for a small price!  A blend of Portugal’s native and rugged Baga grape blended with a little bit of Merlot and then aged in oak barrels, this is dark and intense.  A ripe core of lush blackberry, black cherry and raisin combine with gentle spice and cocoa notes in this extreme value from the Portuguese coast.

All tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle or 15% off if you mix six or more of them together.
