Just in time for the holidays, the R Dumont Brut Tradition Champagne is my pick for the top Champagne deal of all time! For fans of richer-styled, Pinot Noir-driven Champagnes, you’re going to flip when you try this. And at just $29.99/bottle, you won’t find a better “True Champagne” value in the market. Rated 91 points by Vinous Media, it is broad, rich, toasty and complex Champagne that will remind many of Veuve Clicquot. But you can buy 2 bottles of this for what 1 bottle of Veuve would run you.
NV R. Dumont Brut Tradition Champagne – On Sale Through New Year’s Eve, if it lasts that long. It won’t!
The Dumonts have farmed vineyards in the Aube district of Champagne for over 200 years. For years, the family sold their grapes to larger Champagne producers, but in the 1980’s R. Dumont began bottling their own wines. Today, the estate is run by three brothers, and their Brut Tradition is composed of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. The combination of Aube’s warmer temperatures along with its kimmeridgian chalky/clay soils result in richer, more sumptuous wines with rounder and softer textures. And that’s what makes this wine so attractive!
Aged for 24 months on the lees with a dosage of 9 grams, I’d call this a pretty flashy and flamboyant Champagne. Upon popping the cork, you can tell that this is no shy Champagne — ripe citrus, spiced apple, rhubarb and carmelized peach pop out on the nose followed my more complex notes of brioche, buttered toast and musky herbs. It is decidedly dry on the palate, yet rich, broad, and creamy at the same time. Simply put, it easily competes with and qualitatively destroys Champagnes from larger houses that cost twice the price.
With Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s upon us, this is the perfect bottle of bubbles to toast the holidays with. It’s real-deal Champagne, it’s a small grower/producer, and it’s super. Try it with sushi, caviar, or just drink away without food. Just 14 cases available, and that’s it! Last year, this sold out in less than 2 weeks, so don’t wait until New Year’s Eve to pick some up. It will be gone by then, guaranteed. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
