Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2014 Gini Soave Classico (Veneto, Italy) – Gini is not only one of the best producers of Soave, they are one of the top white wine producers in the entire country.  Unlike many of the mass market Soaves that are watered down and bland, the Gini family’s history of farming in the region that dates to 1600 produces a wine that is almost golden in color with exotic notes of white peach, tangerine, apple and white flowers. 90 points Wine Enthusiast.
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 on mixed 6-packs | $15.99 on mixed cases

2. 2015 Chateau de la Selve “Saint Regis” (Coteaux de l’Ardeche, France) – Viognier is the only white grape grown in the vineyards surrounding the 13th century castle that is Chateau de la Selve, and this is a great example of the wine which is often tricky to produce.  While part of the Rhone Valley, it sits slightly to the West between the Northern and Southern Rhone Valleys yielding an aromatic wine, bursting with flavors of peach and citrus with a hint of mint on the finish.
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

3. 2015 Las Bas Gewurztraminer (Somontano, Spain) – This is an incredible find in highly aromatic and flavorful Gewurztraminer from the southeastern part of Spain.  One of the all time great Thanksgiving wines, this one is dry, but luscious, with lovely notes of ripe peach, lychee, rose petal and spice.

4. 2014 Chateau de la Selve “Palissaire” (Coteaux de l’Ardeche, France) – Certified organic and practicing biodynamic, La Selve gives specific attention to the balance and the life of their soils.  This blend of Cinsault, Grenache, and Merlot highlights their efforts in the vineyards by fermenting with indigenous yeasts and neither fining nor filtering the wine.  The result is a fresh and charming red wine that is quite reminiscent of Beaujolais.
Tasting Price: $11.69 on mixed 3-packs | $11.04 on mixed 6-packs | $10.39 on mixed cases

5. 2014 Il Palazzino Rosso di Toscana (Tuscany, Italy) – Antonio Galloni described this wine as “one of the best wines readers will find in its price range,” and we agree 100% with him on that.  It’s basically a really, really, good Chianti Classico without the price tag.  This Sangiovese-based wine from one of the top estates in the region is a bargain and words can’t do it justice, get some in your glass and let the wine do the talking!
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

6. 2011 Tenuta Monteti Caburnio (Tuscany, Italy) – Antonio Galloni hit the nail on the head when he said, “Tenuta Monteti remains arguably the single finest source for reasonably priced wines in Maremma.”  Their Super Tuscan blends 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Alicante-Bouschet, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot to become a wine that explodes with intense notes of dark cherry, blackberry, mint, herb and spice notes.  92 Points Wine Enthusiast
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 on mixed 6-packs | $15.99 on mixed cases

Thanksgiving Wine Tasting in Asheville, NC.

Big, Free, Thanksgiving Wine Tasting

We are pleased to announce our annual Big, Free, Thanksgiving Wine Tasting which will take place on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 from 2-5 p.m.  Sample 12 different turkey, ham, and family friendly wines under one roof and stock up for the most important culinary holiday of the year.  This guarantees to be one of Asheville’s best free wine tastings of the year and you’re all invited!

Thanksgiving only comes once a year, and it’s one of those holidays where good wine is required.  Whether you need special wines for that delicious meal or simple, value priced wines to keep the family happy and peaceful, we’ve got you covered.  Aldo Morales and Sara Helmkamp of Advintage Distributing will join us to pour 12 classic Thanksgiving wines from their extensive portfolio, and the tasting is free to the public. From festive sparkling wines and complex whites to regal and ravishing reds, we’ll have something for everyone.

The wines will range in price from $10 to $50 — regardless of your beverage budget, we’ll get you taken care of! Even better, all of the tasting wines will be on sale at 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any six of them, and 20% off if you mix any 12 or more of them.  It’s the perfect time to taste, learn and save on wines that are guaranteed to make this Thanksgiving the best ever.

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2013 Raventos I Blanc de Nit Brut Sparkling Wine (Penedes, Spain)
This is the winery Josh visited on his trip to Spain in August.  From one of Spain’s first families of sparkling wines, this light, but highly flavorful rosé is ideal for sipping before, during, and/or after the meal.

2. 2014 Isle Saint-Pierre Blanc (Rhone Valley, France)
Round, refreshing, beautifully aromatic blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat.  Peach, citrus, flowers and crisp acidity make this perfect for the Thanksgiving meal.

3. 2013 Elyse L’Ingenue White “Naggiar Vineyard” (Sierra Foothills, California)
Full bodied blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc — lush, exotic, aromatic and full flavored.  Delicious!

4. 2014 Poppy Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands, California)
Classy and classic California Chardonnay from the hills just outside of Monterey.  Barrel fermented, rich, creamy and stylish.

5. 2015 Montinore Borealis (Willamette Valley, Oregon)
Almost dry and oh-so-delicious blend of Gewurztraminer, Muller Thurgau, Riesling and Riesling.  In our opinions, this is one of the all-time great domestic white wines to pair with classic holiday meal.

6. 2015 Isle Saint-Pierre Rouge (Rhone Valley, France)
Obscure, but delicious and juicy blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Arinarnoa, and Petit Verdot from an island in the middle of the Rhone River.  Medium bodied, fresh, spicy and low tannin red that is great with or without food.

7. 2014 Bench Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast, California)
When we poured this one 3 years ago at this same tasting, it was the best selling wine of the day.  We predict that could happen again!  Complex, with notes of ripe red cherry, spice, and complex earth and spice notes, this is a Thanksgiving classic.

8. 2013 Drew “Gatekeeper’s” Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley, California)
This one is even more complex than the Bench and from one of the top producers in the Anderson Valley, in Mendocino County.  Subtle, refined, and one of the best reds of the tasting!

9. Sherman & Hooker’s Shebang Red Blend (Various Regions, California)
Don’t let the name fool you into thinking this is some boring old red blend.  Far from it, this combination of mainly Zinfandel with about 10 other grapes is one of our favorite new finds of the holiday season.

10. 2013 Zorzal Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)
Tasting more like a Malbec from France’s Loire Valley than one from Mendoza, this is juicy, silky and way too easy to drink!

11. 2015 Bila-Haut Cotes du Roussillon Rouge (Languedoc/Roussillon, France)
From the Chapoutier family’s outpost in the Roussillon, this blend of Syrah, Grenach and Carignan is perfect for those who like fuller flavored reds for their meals.

12. 2014 Bedrock Zinfandel “Old Vines” (Various Regions, California)
We love dry Red Zins with our holiday meals and this one from Morgan Twain-Peterson is one of the best we’ve tried all year.  Rich, full bodied, spicy and a perfect way to end the tasting.

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Perfect Thanksgiving Wines

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Stop by the store and sample a couple of perfect Thanksgiving wines!  Friday, November 11th, 4-7pm

With one of our biggest tastings taking place on Saturday, November 12th from 2-5pm (click here to read about that), we’re going to keep Friday’s free wine tasting really simple.  That doesn’t mean we’re pouring mediocre wines though!  Far from it, we’re pouring a couple of highly rated rock stars.  We’ll start with top white wine from Michel Gassier, one of our favorite producers in the Southern Rhone.  It drinks like a top flight white Chateauneuf du Pape but costs a fraction of the price.  We’re also pouring our new Wine of the Week selection, the 2012 Raptor Ridge Reserve Pinot Noir.  This is the last vintage of this wine that this Oregon producer made, and they went out with a bang!  92 points from Vinous Media and this is definitely a richer, fuller, more flamboyant style of Pinot Noir.  You’re going to love it!  Stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines.  Can’t make it by, but want to place an order?  Just email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com.

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2013 Michel Gassier Costieres de Nimes Blanc “Lou Coucardie” (Southern Rhone, France) – This exotic, full bodied blend of 45% Viognier, 30% Roussanne and 25% Grenache Blanc is sensational. From old, organically farmed vineyards, the wine is raised in new and once used used large French oak barrels.  “Big, ripe and layered, with lots of honeyed apricot, ripe peach and butter citrus all soaring from the glass, it’s full-bodied, balanced and unctuously textured, yet never seems heavy or cumbersome in the least. It deserves a classy meal (anything with a cream sauce would be terrific) and should evolve nicely for 2-3 years (although there’s no need to delay gratification).” – Jeb Dunnuck – The Wine Advocate – 92 points
Tasting Price: $26.99/bottle | $25.49 in mixed six packs | $23.99 in mixed cases

2. 2012 Raptor Ridge Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – We’ve been raving about the quality of the 2014 Oregon Pinot Noirs, but don’t forget that 2012 was also a very high quality vintage and it shows in this wine.  The additional bottle age on this one has allowed all of the elements to come together in this wine.  Raptor Ridge is know for producing bigger, riper Pinot Noirs and that’s what you get here.  Jammy cherry, plum and dark raspberry notes are framed nicely by toasty oak and more complex nuances of black tea and Asian spices.  This one would be perfect for this year’s Thanksgiving meal.
Tasting Price: $33.29 on mixed 3-packs | $31.44 on mixed 6-packs | $29.59 on mixed cases

1. 2015 Meinklang Pinot Noir Frizzante “Prosa” (Burgenland, Austria): From the small, biodynamic Michlits Family Estate, this is one of the funnest and easiest to drink wines in the store.  It’s pink in color, it’s dry, and it’s got a little spritz to it.  With aromas and flavors of fresh cherry, tart strawberry, and cranberry, this light and juicy rosé will convert the most suspicious pink wine pessimist over to our side.
Tasting Price: $16.19/bottle | $15.29 in mixed six packs | $14.39 in mixed cases

2. 2015 Grayson Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (Various Regions, California) – Grayson continues to wow us with high quality wines at extremely low prices.  Their 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is another super strong showing from this winery based in Napa Valley.  Full bodied and packed with ripe aromas and flavors of dark cherry, cassis, light oak, soft tannin and mild acidity.  This might qualify as the best under $15 Cabernet coming out of California right now.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

3. 2013 Aia Vecchia Lagone (Tuscany, Italy) – Have we found the best Super Tuscan value?  Maybe, but you’ll have to be the judge!  From Italy’s coastal Maremma region, this one is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that spent 12 months aging in French barrique.  James Suckling gave it 92 points and we agree with his assesment — full bodied, packed with ripe fruit and oak spice notes, this could easily sell for $25+ per bottle.
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

Autumn Wines

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Autumn Wines

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – The Best Free Wine Tasting in Asheville – Friday, October 7th from 4-7 p.m. featuring some Classic Autumn Wines!

Fall is upon us, the temperatures are dropping (sort of), the leaves are changing colors, and it’s time for some fuller bodied, heartier whites and reds.  Join us at our outpost in South Asheville for a free wine tasting featuring some delicious wines guaranteed to keep you warm at night and/or to pair well with the flavors of fall.  We’ll start with a lovely Chenin Blanc from Asheville’s sister city in France and follow that up with one of Oregon’s all time great Pinot Gris’.  To finish, we’ll pour you a big, rich, warm, barrel aged, 91 point rated Tempranillo from Spain.  All you have to do is stop by, taste, learn, and save!

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, and mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2015 Reserve des Vignerons Saumur Blanc (Loire Valley, France) – Chenin Blanc is one of the most versatile of all white wines, and this one is a great introduction to the French version.  Fermented completely in stainless steel, it is dry, crisp, zesty and loaded with aromas and flavors of apple, citrus, and a touch of mineral.  With bright natural acidity and terrific purity of fruit, this is a great one to pair with roasted chicken, spicy stews, and curries.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

2. 2015 Elk Cove Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – Elk Cove cannot fail when it comes to Pinot Gris!  Pretty much every wine authority agrees that they produce one of Oregon’s greatest Pinot Gris’, and we agree 100% with those sentiments.  The 2015 just received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, and they called it one “of the greatest values in Oregon Pinot Gris.”  Laced with notes of luscious apple, pear, and citrus, this full bodied, refreshing white works well with roasted root vegetables, chicken, and pork dishes.
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 on mixed 6-packs | $15.99 on mixed cases

3. 2014 Bodegas Volver Tempranillo “Single Vineyard” (La Mancha, Spain) – This is always a stellar red wine value, but the 2014 is especially good!  From an old parcel of vines planted in 1957, it is 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in French oak and bottled unfiltered.  Boasting a deep, opaque color and rich notes of blackberry, cassis, vanilla and toasty oak, it is full bodied, but super smooth and delicious. Enjoy this one with richer fare (grilled meats, beef stew) or without food — it’s perfect for sipping while watching your favorite football team.  92 points Robert Parker
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, and mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2013 Mount Eden Chardonnay “Wolff Vineyards” (Edna Valley, California) – This is consistently one of the greatest values in high quality California Chardonnay, and the 2013 is absolutely stellar. From one of the oldest Chardonnay vineyards in the state, the wine is barrel fermented and aged on the lees for 8 months prior to bottling.  The resulting wine is exquisite!  Rich, complex, layered, and balanced, it is the perfect fall white wine.  Sadly, this is the last vintage Mount Eden will make.  92 points Wine Enthusiast
Tasting Price: $22.49 on mixed 3-packs | $21.24 on mixed 6-packs | $19.99 on mixed cases

2. 2015 Finca Sophenia “Altosur” Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza, Argentina) – We have been big supporters of Finca Sophenia since the store opened in 2010, and the wines just seem to be getting better every year.  Altosur is the estate’s entry level line of wines, but there’s nothing that tastes “entry level” about this wine.  Full bodied, deeply colored, and exhibiting bold notes of dark cherry, blueberry, mocha and toasty oak, it is a soft and supple version of Cabernet Sauvignon.  Drink this fantasting cocktail Cabernet with or without food any time of the year.
Tasting Price: $10.79 on mixed 3-packs | $10.19 on mixed 6-packs | $9.59 on mixed cases

3. 2013 Errazuriz Carmenere “Max Reserva” (Aconcagua Valley, Chile) – Errazuriz is one of Chile’s oldest and most respected wineries, and we think their Carmenere is one the best produced in the country.  From the estate’s oldest vines, this is textbook Carmenere — full flavored, spicy, pliant and packed with flavors of dark berries, pepper, and mole sauce.  Do yourself a favor and enjoy this one with classic Mexican fare or with spicy chili.  91 points James Suckling
Tasting Price: $16.19 on mixed 3-packs | $15.29 on mixed 6-packs | $14.39 on mixed cases

The Wines

1. 2014 Villa Wolf Pinot Gris (Pfalz, Germany) – The warmer Pfalz region of Germany borders France’s Alsace to the west.  This aspect of the vineyards results in richer, fuller expressions of wine much like those found across the border.  Villa Wolf’s Pinot Gris offers up ample body and texture, a touch of spritz, and just a hint of sweetness. Flavors of ripe peach, pear, flowers and mineral permeate this incredible Pinot Gris value that reminds us of good Oregon Pinot Gris at a fraction of the price.
Tasting Price: $11.69 on mixed 3-packs | $11.04 on mixed 6-packs | $10.39 on mixed cases

2. 2015 Boen Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley, California) – For fans of any of the Belle Glos wines, you should make it a point to come by this Friday and taste Joe Wagner’s newest Pinot Noir.  Possessing many of the same extroverted, pleasure bent traits as his Belle Glos Pinots at a fraction of the price, this is the perfect drink for the wine hedonist in your life.  Full bodied, creamy in texture, and loaded with ripe and ready flavors of warm cherry, strawberry, vanilla, cocoa, and spice, this super smooth and rich red will make some heads spin.
Tasting Price: $26 on mixed 3-packs | $25.49 on mixed 6-packs | $23.99 on mixed cases

3. 2012 Chateau Recougne Bordeaux Superieur (Bordeaux, France) – Chateau Recougne is consistently one of the great Bordeaux values on the planet.  As Robert Parker says: “A winner from the Milhade family, Chateau Recougne has a reputation for lasting 20-30 years in the bottle in many vintages. I do not think the 2012 has that much staying power, but it over-delivers in body, richness, density and length. It is a shockingly good effort displaying a dark ruby color as well as abundant notes of earth, licorice and black currants, surprising body, richness and depth. A major sleeper of the vintage, it should drink well for 7-8 years.” – 88 points Robert Parker
Tasting Price: $13.49 on mixed 3-packs | $12.74 on mixed 6-packs | $11.99 on mixed cases
