Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reunion – Free On Fridays Wine Tasting

Friday, October 6th from 4-7pm – Join us for a free Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reunion Tasting this Friday!  In case you didn’t know, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc are the “parent grapes” of Cabernet Sauvignon.  We’ll pour you one of each of those, before we let you sample the 2015 Bench Cabernet Sauvignon, our new Wine of the Week.

It makes sense when you think about it.  Cabernet Franc possesses notes of dark berries, pepper, tobacco, and spice, and Sauvignon Blanc is high in acidity and herbal aromatics.  When you combine the two, you get Cabernet Sauvignon.  Stop by the store and join us on this fun and engaging journey into the roots of Cabernet Sauvignon……..no pun intended.  We’ll start with an award winning South African Sauvignon Blanc before we move into a spicy and peppery Cabernet Franc-based red from France.  And last, but not least, we’ll pour you a majestic, Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.  It’s fun, it’s free, it’s Friday at Table Wine!  Stop by, taste, learn, and save.

All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  All sales must be tendered by the end of business on Friday unless other arrangements are made.  Email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com with questions.

1. 2017 Bayten Sauvignon Blanc (Constantia, South Africa) – From South Africa’s esteemed Buitenverwachting Estate, this is world-class Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.  Typically a 90+ pointer, we’re confident the 2017 will score in a similar fashion.  The wine has a pale lemon yellow color and a bouquet reminiscent of green figs with hints of gooseberries and an intrusion of green peppers. The wine is dry, full bodied and has a long lingering finish.
Special Tasting Price: $13.59/bottle

2. 2016 Isle Saint-Pierre Rouge (Rhone Valley, France) – This fun and quaffable French country wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, the rarely seen Arinarona, and Petit Verdot.  Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity, it is a medium-bodied, peppery, and fresh red wine for everyday guzzling.
Special Tasting Price: $7.99/bottle

3. 2015 Bench Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley, California) – It’s our new Wine of the Week, and it’s a screaming deal in high-quality, North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon.  Boasting intense and full aromas and flavors of cassis, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and spice box, it possesses dusty, but fine grained tannins and a long and satisfying finish.
Special Wine of the Week Price: $18.99/bottle

Try Three for Free Wine Tasting – Great European Wine Values

Saturday, September 2nd from 2-5pm – Make this Saturday special with a free wine tasting featuring a trio of great European wine values.  It’s the best free wine tasting in Asheville, and we’d love to see you!

I am seriously pumped about this tasting!  All three of the wines we’re pouring retail for less than $15, but they sure as heck don’t taste like bargain wines.  Nope, these extreme value wines “punch way above their respective weight classes.”  Don’t believe me?  Stop by and taste them for yourself!  We’ll start with Le Grand St. Vincent Touraine Blanc, a lovely little crisp and crunchy Sauvignon Blanc from France’s Loire Valley region.  After that, it’s the bright and sunny Domaine Vetriccie Ile de Beaute Blanc from Corsica……this one is a real palate pleaser and perfect for drinking with or without food.  To finish, the Marchetti Rosso Conero is our new Case of the Month and it’s one of the top Italian red wine values in the store!  Mainly Montepulciano with a splash of Sangiovese, it is rich, plump, full bodied and a perfect wine for pizza, lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs.  Hungry and/or thirsty yet?  Stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines!

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2016 Le Grand St. Vincent Touraine Blanc (Loire Valley, France) – Like Sancerre, but hate paying the price?  Here’s the solution!  100% stainless steel fermented Sauvignon Blanc from the Middle Loire, this is just classic, brisk, and refreshing white wine that flows with bright citrus, herb and mineral notes.

2. 2016 Domaine Vetriccie Ile de Beaute Blanc (Corsica, France) – This stainless steel fermented blend of Chardonnay and Vermentino literally smells like a sunny day.  Bursting with fresh apple, peach, citrus, honeysuckle and gentle spice notes, this will perk up your day in no time.  Easy drinking, uncomplicated, clean and fresh, this is just silly good!

3. 2015 Marchetti Rosso Conero “Castro di San Silvestro” (Marche, Italy) – It’s our new Case of the Month and it’s an insane value in real-deal, honest and authentic Italian red wine. The Marchetti family have been making Montepulciano for over 100 years and they have pretty much perfected it.  Their Rosso Conero is 90% Montepulciano and 10% Sangiovese that sees just a bit of oak aging.  The resulting wine is dark, rich, plump and pleasure-bent with lovely note of ripe blueberry, plum, fig and spice.

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Remarkable Wine Values

Friday, September 1st from 4-7pm – Get your September and your weekend off to a great start with a free wine tasting starring some remarkable wine values from near and far.  It’s Asheville’s best free wine tasting, and you are cordially invited.  Bring a friend!

I take great pride in all of the wines we select for the store.  Yeah, we’ve got plenty of premium offerings, but I’m most proud of our unique and extensive selection of value wines.  In case you didn’t know, the store stocks over 150 wines that sell for less than $15 per bottle.  And we taste every single one of them every single vintage to make sure the quality is up to our standards.  Join us this Friday to sample three of our favorite values.  Up first, the Vallevo Chardonnay from Italy’s Abruzzo region is a lovely and crisp example of pure, un-oaked Chardonnay perfect for everyday drinking.  Next in the lineup, the Gerberas Garnacha hails from Spain’s Aragon region, the genetic birthplace of Grenache.  For less than $10/bottle, you won’t find a better value in full bodied, richly fruited, and roundly textured red wine.  To finish, the Paris Valley Road Heritage Red is one of our newest finds and you’re going to love this one.  A full bodied, rich and polished blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Merlot, this one offers a ton of pleasure at a great price.  Did I mention that all three of these wines retail for less than $12?  Stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the featured tasting wines!

The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines!  Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!

1. 2016 Vallevo Chardonnay (Abruzzo, Italy) – You’ll be hard pressed to find a better no-oak Chardonnay for under $10 than this one.  Vallevo puts out several great values that grace our shelves (they’re the same ones who make that Pecorino that so many of you love), and this is always pure, juicy, Chardonnay goodness.  Flowing with ripe apple, pear, melon, and light floral nuances, it’s dry, crisp, and refreshing………and cheap!

2. 2016 Gerberas Garnacha (Aragon, Spain) – I was blown away by this wine when I had it this past weekend with a good old cheeseburger.  Pure Garnacha from 30 year old vines, it is fermented in stainless steel.  The resulting wine is fat, plush, juicy and delicious.  It is one of my top under-$10 red wine picks in the store!

3. 2013 Paris Valley Road Heritage Red Wine (Various Regions, California) – I honestly don’t know how this wine can sell for less than $12!  It’s all estate fruit from vineyards just north of Paso Robles, it’s aged in real French and American oak barrels, and it’s awesome!  A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Zinfandel and the balance in Syrah, Petite Sirah and Merlot, it offers up loads of ripe dark fruit along with subtle notions of fig, espresso, chocolate and spice.  Trust me, you’re going to dig it!

Syrah Wine Tasting at Table Wine in Asheville, North Carolina.

Perfectly Aged Syrah and Others – Try Three for Free Wine Tasting

Saturday, July 15 from 2-5 p.m. – If you’ve never tried a perfectly aged Syrah, this is your chance!  The 2003 Cougar Crest Syrah is a feast for the senses and we’re going to pour it for you along with two other Syrah based wines this Saturday.  Trust me, you don’t want to miss this tasting!

Some call it Syrah, some call it Shiraz, but whatever you want to call it, it’s one of the most distinct and noble of all red varietals.  Typically referred to as Syrah in the Northern Hemisphere and Shiraz in the Southern Hemisphere, the grape yields a variety of styles of wine.  From lovely dry rosés and jammy fruit bombs to savory, complex reds, this is a grape that can’t be pigeonholed.  Join us for a Syrah adventure where we’ll pour you a diverse lineup of wines. Up first, it’s the lovely Le Petit Diable Rosé from France’s Provence region — dry, crisp, and aromatic, this is one of our top selling pink wines this summer. Up next, the Jam Jar Shiraz is an ever-so-slightly sweet red wine from South Africa — loaded with ripe and jammy berry notes, it’s just off-dry and perfect red for bbq.  The top wine of the tasting is the sensational 2003 Cougar Crest, a wine that truly shows the savory, spicy, complex side of Syrah.  Words don’t do it justice — stop by and taste it.  You won’t be disappointed!

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2016 Le Petit Diable Cotes de Provence Rosé (Provence, France) – This one comes to us from the same folks who made the MIP rosé, a top seller last summer.  A classic blend of Syrah, Cinsault and Grenache, it is light, delicate, aromatic and oh-so easy to drink on warm summer days.
Tasting Price: $14.39 in mixed 3-packs | $13.59 in mixed 6-packs | $12.79 in mixed cases

2. 2015 Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz (Western Cape, South Africa) – At 12.5% alcohol, this one is really just gently sweet.  It’s more about fresh, ripe, and overt fruit flavors, and I find it quite delicious.  Blueberry, dark cherry and dark chocolate notes flow through this fun and easy drinking red from South Africa.
Tasting Price: $10.89 in mixed 3-packs | $10.19 in mixed 6-packs | $9.59 in mixed cases

2. 2003 Cougar Crest Syrah (Columbia Valley, Washington) – Like Cougar Crest’s 2003 Merlot (which we poured yesterday), this is an incredible deal in pre-aged red wine.  In case you didn’t know, Syrah does wonderful things in Washington State, and this one is proof positive.  Showing the more secondary and savory notes that Syrah develops with time (spice, smoked meat, dried fruit) this one is still fully kicking. Lush in texture, intense in flavor, and the perfect accompaniment to grilled lamb, you’re gonna’ love it!
Tasting Price: $22.49 in mixed 3-packs | $21.24 in mixed 6-packs | $19.99 in mixed cases

Merlot Tasting at Table Wine in Asheville, North Carolina.

Merlot Find of the Year – Free on Fridays Wine Tasting

Friday, July 14 from 4-7 p.m. – The 2003 Cougar Crest Merlot is one of our red wine finds of the year.  And no, that’s not a typo, we’re pouring you a 14 year old wine that is drinking wonderfully right now!  Taste that one along with two other Merlot-based wines.

Before you dismiss this tasting, you should know that Merlot is one of the noble varietals.  The grape has been used for ages as a stand-alone as well as with Cabernet Sauvignon to produce bold, full bodied, ample red wines.  And it ages really well too!  Don’t believe me?  Stop by this Friday to taste a perfect example.  Before we get to that one, we’ll pour you the Anterra Merlot to start.  An un-oaked version from Italy’s Veneto region, it is soft, easy drinking, and affordable.  Up next, the Pedroncelli Merlot comes from one of Sonoma’s oldest wineries.  Round, soft, plush and smooth, it is a classic example of California Merlot.  Last but not least is that Merlot find of the year from Washington State’s Cougar Crest.  Wow!  Talk about a sumptuous red wine with layers of port-like cassis, roasted fig, plum and chocolate.  I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.  Stop by, taste, learn, and save big on all of the tasting wines.

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2015 Anterra Merlot (Veneto, Italy) – This Merlot is not hard to understand.  Fermented entirely in stainless steel, it offers up aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, plum and spice.  This medium bodied and easy going red would work great with simple pasta dishes or comfort food staples like barbecue or burgers.
Tasting Price: $6.29 in mixed 3-packs | $5.94 in mixed 6-packs | $5.59 in mixed cases

2. 2014 Pedroncelli Merlot (Sonoma County, California) – This is just good old American Merlot from one of Sonoma’s oldest and most dependable producers.  Round, smooth, plush and loaded with ripe cherry, plum, vanilla and oak spice, this is an easy one to wrap your head around.
Tasting Price: $15.29 in mixed 3-packs | $14.44 in mixed 6-packs | $13.59 in mixed cases

2. 2003 Cougar Crest Merlot (Columbia Valley, Washington) – Founded in 2001, Cougar Crest is a family owned and operated winery with prime vineyards in Washington’s Walla Walla Valley.  In case you didn’t know, most insiders believe that Washington (not California) is home to our country’s best Merlot.  I concur and this wine is the evidence.  The 14 years of bottle maturation have done great things for this wine — the tannin has softened, the aromas and flavors have taken on a Vintage Port like nuance, and the overall impression is one I typically find in wines that cost a lot more.  Oh yeah, the current release of this wine goes for $40.  Enjoy!
Tasting Price: $22.49 in mixed 3-packs | $21.24 in mixed 6-packs | $19.99 in mixed cases

Go-To European Wines – Try 3 For Free Wine Tasting

Saturday, July 1 from 2-5 p.m. – Stop by the store this Saturday for our free wine tasting featuring some great, go-to European wines. I’m talking about affordable, delicious wines perfect for your Fourth of July celebrations.

I can’t believe the Fourth of July is almost here!  The summer is flying by, and we’re busier than ever.  Thanks folks!  With the holiday just a few days away, we’re going to pour you some great wines to enjoy while you’re cooking out and enjoying time with friends and family.  Up first, it’s one of my new favorite pink fizzy wines.  The Venturini Baldini Lambrusco is cheap, it’s delicious, and it’s refreshing.  After that, it’s a pure Garnacha from Spain’s Aragon region. This region in Northeastern Spain is where the grape comes from, and this wine is seriously delicious………and less than $10!  To finish, it’s a super duper red blend put together by Kermit Lynch, one of our favorite importers.  Mainly Syrah and Grenache, it is a fabulous red to serve with just about any sort of grilled meat.

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. NV Venturini Baldini Lambrusco Rosato “Cadelvento” (Emilia-Romagna, Italy) – Lambrusco has made a huge comeback and I attribute that to quality producers like Venturini Baldini.  Since 1976, they have made Lambrusco their focus and their wines are affordable and delicious.  Their Rosato is the perfect start to a great evening with friends and family.  Dry, sparkling, clean and delicious.
Tasting Price: $9.89 in mixed 3-packs | $9.34 in mixed 6-packs | $8.79 in mixed cases

2. 2016 Gerberas Garnacha (Aragon, Spain) – I was blown away by this wine when I tasted it a couple of weeks ago.  Good thing I ordered 10 cases as it sold out in less than 2 hours.  Pure Garnacha from 30 year old vines, it is fermented in stainless steel.  The resulting wine is fat, plush, juicy and delicious. Need a wine for burgers and hot dogs or bbq?  This is it!
Tasting Price: $8.99 in mixed 3-packs | $8.49 in mixed 6-packs | $7.99 in mixed cases

3. 2015 Kermit Lynch Languedoc Rouge (Languedoc, France) – God bless America and God bless Kermit Lynch.  For nearly 50 years, he has brought us a taste of real, authentic French wines, and he’s done it again.  This custom-made blend is composed of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 5% each Carignan and Cinsault.  Fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of cement and foudre, it is just simply delicious.  Words don’t do it justice — stop by and taste it.
Tasting Price: $12.59 in mixed 3-packs | $11.89 in mixed six packs | $11.19 in mixed cases

Free on Fridays Wine Tasting – Domaine Lafage and Banshee Wines

Friday, June 30th from 4-7 p.m. – Get your weekend off to a good start with the best free wine tasting in Asheville!  This week, Mike Kolker of Freedom Beverage Co. joins us to pour the awesome wines of France’s Domaine Lafage and  California’s Banshee.

If you’ve been shopping at Table Wine for any amount of time, you know the wines of Lafage and Banshee, and most likely you love them.  They are great wines at great prices made by great people.  Join us as we pour you a sampling of wines from these all-star producers.  Up first, it’s Jean-Marc Lafage’s Miraflors Blanc, a white blend that smells and tastes of sunny days and flowers.  After that, it’s Jean-Marc’s dry rosé, a perennial best seller and a candidate for the best looking bottle of wine on the market.  Next, we’ll move into the Banshee zone with a pair of reds from this Healdsburg-based winery.  First up is the 2014 Pinot Noir — the favorable conditions of the vintage and the expert winemaking of Ross Cobb resulted in a stunning value in Sonoma County Pinot Noir.  We’ll finish with their Mordecai, a big and boisterous red blend composed of several different grapes from various parts of the state.  It’s gonna’ be fun and it’s gonna’ be tasty.  Stop by, taste, learn and save big on all of the featured tasting wines.

All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2015 Domaine Lafage Miraflors Blanc (Roussillon, France) – Talk about a fun and exotic white wine.  Composed of Vermentino, Vigonier, Muscat, Grenache Blanc and a few others, it is dry, but tender, and laced with lovely notes of ripe lemon, white peach, spring flowers and herbs.
Tasting Price: $15.29 in mixed 3-packs | $14.44 in mixed 6-packs | $13.59 in mixed cases

2. 2016 Domaine Lafage Miraflors Rose (Roussillon, France) – This is a stellar value in first class dry rose.  Jean-Marc Lafage crafts this one from blend of 80 year old Grenache Gris and younger vine Mourvedre.  The result is a wine flowing with ripe and creamy red fruits, white peach, and spring flowers.  Even better, it’s on sale!
Tasting Price: $16.19 in mixed 3-packs | $15.29 in mixed 6-packs | $14.39 in mixed cases

3. 2014 Banshee Pinot Noir (Sonoma County, California) – I had a bottle of this recently and was amazed at the quality for the price ratio.  Tasting like Pinots that often sell for $50+, this one is always good, but the 2014 is great.  Medium bodied, silky, complex and possessing gobs of ripe red fruits, exotic spices, and rooty, earthy nuances, it is a wonderful Pinot at a wonderful price.
Tasting Price: $24.29 in mixed 3-packs | $22.94 in mixed six packs | $21.59 in mixed cases

4. 2014 Banshee Mordecai (Various Regions, California) – 35% Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa, Sonoma), 28% Syrah (Anderson Valley, Sonoma), 22% Zinfandel (Dry Creek, Russian River), 6% Merlot (Alexander Valley), 4% Carignan (Mendocino), 3% Cabernet Franc (Sonoma), 2% Cinsault (Sonoma).  Is that enough grapes for you?  Aged for 15 months in French oak (new and used), the resulting wine is reminiscent of a good Cotes du Rhone meets Priorat.
Tasting Price: $19.79 in mixed 3-packs | $18.69 in mixed six packs | $17.59 in mixed cases

Perfectly aged red wines tasting at Table Wine in Asheville, North Carolina

Perfectly Aged Red Wines – Try 3 For Free Wine Tasting

Saturday, June 17th from 2-5 p.m. – Want to try some perfectly aged red wines that won’t break the bank?  Stop by the store this Saturday to sample a trio of rare treats.  We’ll carefully pull the corks on three 10+ year old red wines, and you will experience firsthand why some choose to age their wines.  I’m talking about mature, super complex aromas and flavors as well as round and supple textures. Supplies are limited on all of these. It’s going to be fun.  Stop by!

So where did you find these perfectly aged red wines Josh?  Occasionally, our distributors discover older wines in their warehouses while doing inventory. Most of them taste…………well, old and not so good.  However, some of them taste marvelous!  They’ve benefited from the aging process and the wines are absolutely glorious.  I found three such wines just this past week, and we’re going to open them for you this Saturday to try.  Up first, it’s the 2001 Rosemount Mountain Blue Red Blend.  At one time, this was the jewel in the crown of Rosemount’s premium offerings.  Wait until you taste it!  After that, its the 2003 Cougar Crest Merlot from Washington’s Walla Walla Valley.  Rated 90 points upon release with a suggested retail of $35, this one is in a great spot right now and my pick for the perfect filet mignon red.  To finish, the 2005 Cougar Crest Syrah is fabulous!  Flowing with sumptuous aromas and flavors of dark fruit, smoked meat, and complex spice, it is simply awesome.

The Wines
I am offering some very aggressive discounts on these wines — these will move out fast!  Please note that the heightened discounts only apply to the tasting wines.

1. 2001 Rosemount Mountain Blue Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon (Mudgee, Australia) – A blend of roughly 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, this red is really peaking right now.  Aromas of peppered meat, smoke, dried blackberry lead into a palate of savory fruit, spice and herb.  Drink this one, ideally with lamb, in the next year.  When released, this wine was $50/bottle.  Check out our price!
Regular Price: $29.99/bottle
Special Tasting Price: $26.99/bottle (10% off) | $23.99 in mixed 6-packs (20% off) | $22.49 in mixed cases (25% off)

2. 2003 Cougar Crest Merlot (Walla Walla Valley, Washington): This one really surprised me.  I thought the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon would be the hit, but it was actually my least favorite.  This one is holding up just fine — offering up plush notes of plum, milk chocolate, green olive and anise, the texture is as smooth as silk.  When released, this wine was $35/bottle.
Regular Price: $24.99/bottle
Tasting Price: $22.49/bottle (10% off) | $19.99 in mixed six packs (20% off) | $18.74 in mixed cases (25% off)

3. 2003 Cougar Crest Syrah (Walla Walla Valley, Washington) – As I said, this one was my favorite of the three by just a hair.  Syrah does incredible things if aged properly, and this one has developed nicely.  Still ripe and not showing much fading of color, it is a wine I could literally smell all day.  Savory notes of black olive, smoked meat and pepper align with ripe notes of dark berries.  Like lamb?  Here’s your wine!  Originally released at $35/bottle.
Regular Price: $24.99/bottle
Tasting Price: $22.49/bottle (10% off) | $19.99 in mixed six packs (20% off) | $18.74 in mixed cases (25% off)

Try 3 For Free Wine Tasting – Wines You’re Going To Like

Saturday, June 10th from 2-5 pm – Join us Saturday for a free wine tasting featuring 3 wines that are guaranteed to please your palate! This is your chance to try the Pullus Halozan, our new Wine of the Week and one of the best summer whites I’ve ever tasted.  Trust me, you are going to want to stock up on this one!

I easily taste over 1,000 wines every year.  Many are horrible, many are great.  I deem some as hard sells, but worth carrying and others as easy sells, but not necessarily to my liking.  Occasionally, the stars align and I find wines that are both pleasing to my palate and easy to sell.  That’s what this Saturday’s tasting is all about.  Stop by to try a trio of wines you are going to like……..I guarantee it!  Up first, it’s our new Wine of the Week, the 2016 Pullus Halozan.  This liter bottled Slovenian white blend is destined to become the top selling white wine of the spring and summer.  After that, it’s a fun and fizzy Pinot Noir rosé from a family-run, biodynamic farm in Austria.  Dry, yet fruit filled and way too easy to drink, I love this one at the beach or by the pool.  To finish, it’s a lovely, silky, value-priced Red Burgundy from the brilliant 2015 vintage.  In case you didn’t hear, the vintage has been called “nearly perfect” by a number of top wine writers, and this wine showcases the quality of the vintage.  Stop by, taste, learn, and save!

The Wines
All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2016 Pullus Halozan (Styria, Slovenia) – It’s our new Wine of the Week, it comes in a nifty liter bottle, and I’m calling it the most dangerous white wine in the world.  Why?  Because it’s too darned easy to drink!  A blend of 8 different white grapes (Welschriesling, Furmint, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Yellow Muscat, Pinot Grigio if you must know), it is decidedly dry, fresh, aromatic and thirst-quenching.
Tasting Price: $13.99 on mixed 3-packs | $13.59 on mixed 6-packs | $12.79 on mixed cases
Special Wine of the Week Price: $13.99/bottle or $12.49/bottle on your solid 6-pack

2. 2015 Meinklang Pinot Noir Frizzante “Prosa” (Burgenland, Austria): From the small, biodynamic Michlits Family Estate, this is one of the funnest and easiest to drink wines in the store.  It’s pink in color, it’s dry, and it’s got a little spritz to it.  With aromas and flavors of fresh cherry, tart strawberry, and cranberry, this light and juicy rosé will convert the most suspicious pink wine pessimist over to our side.
Tasting Price: $16.19/bottle | $15.29 in mixed six packs | $14.39 in mixed cases

3. 2015 Domaine du Prieure Bourgogne Rouge (Burgundy, France) – I had a bottle of this one this past Saturday night, and it blew me away!  It’s incredibly hard to find good Red Burgundy for less than $20, but this one does it.  Based in the village of Savigny-les-Beaune, this is 100% Pinot Noir from 40 year old vineyards.  Hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and matured in French oak (just 10% new) for 10 months, this one offers up scents and flavors of red fruits, complex spice, and fine grained tannin.
Tasting Price: $17.09 on mixed 3-packs | $16.14 in a mixed six pack | $15.19 in a mixed case

Stop by the store this Friday to sample some of my newest finds.  Up first, it’s a stunning Albarino that tastes of tropical fruits and the sea.  One of the all-time great seafood wines, this one would be great with a spicy shrimp or fish curry.  Up next, it’s the new vintage of Domaine Salvard’s Cheverny Rosé.  Always a staff and customer favorite, we only got 4 cases this year — come and get it!  To finish, we’ll pour you a Spanish red from Daniel Landi, one of Spain’s most talented young winemakers.  A blend of Garnacha, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards just outside of Madrid, this one is rich and juicy yet fresh and vibrant.  Join us as we explore the wonderful world of wine.  Cheers and we’ll see you soon!

The Wines
All of the featured tasting wines are on sale the day of the tasting: take 10% off if you mix any 3, 15% off if you mix any 6, or 20% off if you mix any 12.

1. 2016 Neboa Albarino (Rias Baixas, Spain) – I enjoyed this one at Curaté for the first time a couple of months back.  It reminded me of really good, dry German Riesling.  After reading up on it, I now understand why.  The wine comes from 75 year old, hillside vineyards planted on slate……….a similar situation to Mosel Riesling.  Flowing with floral infused peach, apricot, and citrus nuances, this is the best Albarino on the market for the money.
Tasting Price: $15.29 on mixed 3-packs | $14.44 on mixed 6-packs | $13.59 on mixed cases

2. 2016 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny Rosé (Loire Valley, France) – Talk about a zinger of a rosé!  From the brilliant Kermit Lynch portfolio, this blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir is one of my favorites. Laced with aromas and flavors of red fruits, pink grapefruit, herb, and mineral, it smells and tastes like a sunny and warm day in the Loire Valley.
Tasting Price: $14.39 on mixed 3-packs | $13.59 in a mixed six pack | $12.79 in a mixed case

3. 2015 Jiménez-Landi Bajondillo (Mentrida, Spain) – Mentrida is located just southwest of Madrid and it is the new hot-spot in Spain for Garnacha-based wines.  Vigneron Daniel Landi is leading the pack of Mentrida producers to greater heights.  Hi Bajondillo red blend combines 85% Garnacha from old vines with little bits of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The resulting wine is medium bodied, silky and savory with earthy, leathery, smoky notes on top of juicy berry fruit.  I love how this wine manages to balance weight and power with elegance.
Tasting Price: $17.99 on mixed 3-packs | $16.99 in a mixed six pack | $15.99 in a mixed case
