98 point-rated Super Tuscan, Less than $15: 2021 Barbanera Ser Passo

98 point-rated Super Tuscan, Less than $15: 2021 Barbanera Ser Passo

Who’s in the mood for a rich and ravishing, 98 point-rated, Sangiovese-based red blend from Tuscany? Oh yeah, it's less than $15....I've got a feeling this might be our top-selling feature of 2024....

From the wonderful 2021 vintage, this Sangiovese and Merlot blend is plush, supple, super smooth, and it's going to please lots of palates. It's been a top-seller for years, but we're dealing SUPER DEEP on it through 4/13 or until we sell through the 28 cases we bought, whichever comes first :)

Barbanera Ser Passo

2021 Barbanera Ser Passo Toscana Rosso

98 points Luca Maroni on this "Baby Super Tuscan."

As I said earlier, Vintage 2021 was superb throughout Tuscany. Hot, sunny, and dry conditions stressed the vines, coaxing out riper and richer flavors in the grapes. That is abundantly obvious in the 2021 Ser Passo, and this more modern-styled Tuscan red is a real crowd-pleaser.

I will say that 98 points is a bit high for my personal palate, but that's what Italian critic Luca Maroni scored this at. I'd have it more in the 90-91 point zone, still very respectable ratings for a wine that comes to you as low at less than fifteen bucks!

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, the wine sees 6 months of aging in new and used oak barrels. The nose is warm and inviting with notes of ripe cherry, baked plum, chocolate, and spice. Full and incredibly fine-grained (aka smooth) on the palate, this goes down easy with or without food.

Overall, this stuff is quite classy, stylish, and easy-to-like. I can see why we get requests for this wine from wine lovers worldwide. I know my write-ups can sound too good to be true, but this one is the real deal.
