“545” Wine Tasting – Banshee Wine Company – Friday, May 17th., 2013 – 4:00 to 7:00 pm

The Banshee Wine Company was founded just a few years ago by three wine loving friends with the goal of producing high quality wines at reasonable prices.  They work with high end vineyard owners and wineries, sourcing fruit and sometimes finished wines, and blending them to craft their wines.  It’s an interesting side note that one of the founding partners is Noah Dorrance, my Phi Delt fraternity brother from the University of Missouri.  Lynn and I got to spend some quality time with him on our trip to California back in January, and the Banshee wines just keep getting better.  Their Pinot Noir is now crafted by Ross Cobb, current winemaker at Hirsch and Cobb and former winemaker at Flowers, and he is doing a fabulous job.

Mike Kolker will join us this Friday to pour five of their wines and we’ll start with their crisp and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc before moving right into the reds. The first one is the Rickshaw Pinot Noir, a light and aromatic rendition of the grape before we jump into the new vintage of the Banshee Pinot Noir, a stellar effort that combines elegance with great structure and complexity.  Next up is the Mordecai, a red blend composed of 13 different grapes!  We’ll wrap it all up with their brilliant 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon composed of fruit from the famed Stagecoach and Ink Grade Vineyards……….most Cabs with this sort of pedigree sell for $75+ a bottle, but not this one.
$5/person…..Free for Grape Nuts
