Drinks Like Top-Flight Pouilly-Fuisse: 2022 Morgan Highland Chardonnay

Morgan Highland Chardonnay

Dan Morgan Lee and his family have farmed the cool-climate, wind-swept hills of the Santa Lucia Highlands for over 30 years. Located just inland from Monterey Bay, this region enjoys one of the longest growing seasons in all of California.

This long "hang-time" allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, developing the perfect balance of ripeness, complexity, and acidity. All of those attributes are on display in Morgan's 2022 Highland Chardonnay.

2022 Morgan Highland Chardonnay -- Here's why you should buy it:

  • It garnered a much-deserved 94 point rating from Wine Enthusiast. "Aromas of melon, white peach and orange blossom" lead into a chalky palate that is "quite savory with salt tones that decorate the baked nectarine and apple flavors." Yum!
  • White Burgundy isn't getting cheaper anytime soon, and this will appeal to lovers of Pouilly-Fuisse and Vire-Clesse with its balance of ripe fruit, zesty acids, and complex minerality.
  • It's got some staying power. The well-drained soils of the SLH yield small berries with thick skins which leads to intense and powerful Chardonnays. Drink now through 2030.
