The Wines
1. 2014 Jean-Paul Brun “Terres Dorees” Beaujolais Blanc (Beaujolais, France) – This is your chance to try our new Wine of the Week and the best Chardonnay and White Burgundy value on the planet. Grower and producer Jean-Paul Brun is one of our favorites in the region — he farms organically and he’s not afraid to take chances. Whereas most Beaujolais Blanc is thin and sour, his is rich and beautifully textured with gorgeous notes of golden apple, lemon cream, spice and white florals. “Behaving” a lot like a great Pouilly-Fuisse or St. Veran, but costing substantially less, it is one of the best White Burgundy deals out there.
2. 2014 Vignerons de Buxy Buissonnier (Burgundy, France) – We know this one isn’t from Beaujolais, but close enough! It hails from the new Coteaux Bourguignons appellation that covers all of Burgundy, including Beaujolais, and allows producers to blend Burgundy’s beloved Pinot Noir with Beaujolais’ native Gamay. This one blends 70% Pinot Noir with 30% Gamay to create a fresh, juicy, and lively red wine that is ideal for warm weather drinking. Put a little chill on it and enjoy!
3. 2014 Jean-Paul Brun “Terres Dorees” Beaujolais L’Ancien (Beaujolais, France) – Jean-Paul Brun’s Beaujolais L’Ancien is a great introduction to super high quality, small grower/producer red Beaujolais. Composed entirely of Gamay from old vineyards (50+ years old to be exact), the grapes are destemmed and then fermented with native yeasts in older French oak barrels. The resulting wine is gorgeous, with notes of freshly ripened red berries, smoky mineral, and pungent herb oil.
