Whether you’re going to be sunbathing or grilling and chilling, this tasting covers all bases. We’ll start with 2013 Vignerons du Mont Ventoux Blanc, an aromatically pleasing blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, and Bourbolenc that is just brimming with exotic tropical fruits, spring flowers and spices. Next up, the 2013 Bieler Pere et Fils Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence is a lovely dry pink blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon that offers up the rich flavors of a red wine combined with the refreshing qualities of a white wine. It’s a must have for sunny days!
The reds start with the 2012 Chateau Pesquie Cotes du Ventoux “Cuvée des Terrasses,” a candidate for top red wine value of the year. Combining 70% Grenache with 30% Syrah, this rich, spicy, full bodied wine makes a perfect partner to barbecued chicken or ribs. The second red is the 2012 Domaine de Bila Haut Cotes du Roussillon Rouge, a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. With a concentrated core of black cherry and dark raspberry along with notions of black pepper and herb, this hefty southern French red loves grilled meats. We’ll finish up with the 2012 rendition of Dave Phinney’s Locations F-2 Red Blend, a whacky blend of Grenache from the Roussillon, Syrah from the Rhone, and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Bordeaux. It’s an original wine packed with ripe fruit and spice…………try this one with a heavily peppered steak and call it a night!
