545 Wine Tasting - Pumped for Portuguese Wines

Join us every Friday any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “wine down” your work week and get your week end off to a good start with the best wine tasting in Asheville! This week, we’re excited to pour you a great quintet of wines from Portugal. If you thought all that Portugal did was Port, think again! We’ll start you off with uber-exotic and refreshing 2012 Monte Velho Branco, a blend of native, oddly named Portuguese grapes that wows the senses with pineapple, peach, honeysuckle and spice notes. The 2012 Monte das Promessas Branco is also composed of some of Portugal’s old native grapes, and it’s just a touch sweet, but oh-so refreshing and delicious.

Moving on to the reds, the 2011 Pedra Cancela Tinto comes from older hillside vineyards above the Dao River and is composed of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo). Richly fruited, smooth and spicy, this is Portugal’s answer to Rioja. The 2012 Palestra Tinto hails from Portugal’s Douro Valley and has been a staple in the store since we opened almost four years ago. Lushly fruited and ripe with raspberry and plum fruit, this perennial great value is clicking on all cylinders in the new vintage. Finally the 2011 Quinta do Encontro Tinto combines 50% Baga with 50% Merlot to produced a structured and powerful red wine that could easily sell for $20+. Stop by, taste, buy and save every Friday at Table Wine! Just $5/person or it’s free if you’re a Grape Nut!

Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix six of them, and 20% off if you mix twelve of them!
