2014 Montinore Estate Pinot Noir

SOLD OUT! Vintage 2014 is a great one in Oregon and the 2014 Montinore Estate Pinot Noir is one of the best values out there!

Mark my words, the 2014 vintage in Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a great one, very similar in quality to the 2012 vintage. If you know me, you know I love my Pinot Noir, and I’m just going to come out and say that this is one of the best Willamette Valley Pinot Noir values I’ve ever tasted.

Founded in 1982, Montinore Estate is the largest organic wine producer in the United States. The estate is composed of 210 acres situated at the northern end of the Willamette Valley (quite close to Elk Cove), and all 210 of those acres are Demeter Certified Biodynamic and Stellar Certified Organic.

Today, the estate is owned and operated by Rudy and Susan Marchesi and their two daughters. They live on their estate, are very much in touch with their land and their vineyards, and are very passionate about maintaining the health of their soils. Simply put, healthy dirt full of vibrant microbial life leads to more complex and delicious wines.

Every respected wine writer and periodical in the country has rated the 2014 vintage in Oregon as stellar. Wine Spectator said, “if you’re looking for power in your Pinot, 2014 is it.” It’s more powerful than 2012 but not as overpowering as 2009 could be.” Dry and warm conditions resulted in Pinots with darker colors, riper flavors, and more concentrated personalities than what is usually encountered in Oregon.

Montinore’s Pinot Noir definitely achieved all of that and then some! It pours a gorgeous dark ruby color and the nose is packed with warm, ripe cherry, strawberry, dark raspberry, spice and forest floor aromas. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied, supple and seamless, and loaded with flavors of ripe red fruits, black tea, and brown spice. A perfect candidate for grilled salmon, poultry, or pork tenderloin, but also delicious with nothing more than a glass, this beauty will drink well over the next 3 to 5 years.
