2014 Laurent Gauthier Beaujolais Villages Rose

2014 Laurent Gauthier Beaujolais Villages Rose

SOLD OUT! We can guarantee you that we have the best dry rose selection in all of Asheville — at last count, we had 32 different bottles of dry pink wine in the store!

This one, from a small grower in the northern part of Beaujolais, is one of our favorites in the under-$15 category. With the heat on the rise, there’s nothing much better than an ice cold glass of dry rose while your sitting on the beach, poolside, or on your back porch.

Super bright, crisp, and aromatic rose of Gamay!

Laurent Gauthier has more or less lived in Morgon in the norther sector of Beaujolais his entire life. He was born in 1965 on the famed Cote de Py hill of Morgon to parents who were grape growers. He took over his family’s estate in 1991, and today he is helped by his son Jason. Let’s just say he knows a thing or two about the terroir of Morgon, and that knowledge of the region and all of its characteristics shows in Laurent’s wines.

Laurent’s specialty is powerful, concentrated, and age-worthy Morgon, but he makes a small amount of dry rose because he wants something to drink in the summer. All we have to say is THANK YOU LAURENT!!!! Laurent uses younger vines from his organically tended vineyards in Morgon and Chiroubles to make this wine. It is fermented entirely in stainless steel to preserve the natural purity and freshness of the grapes.

Gauthier’s 2014 Beaujolais Villages Rose is 100% Gamay, and the resulting wine is pale pink in color but highly aromatic and full of fresh and fruity flavors. The nose exhibits aromas of wild strawberry, white cherry, cranberry, and rose petal. Imagine eating strawberries on a sunny day in a field of wild flowers — that kind of gives you an idea of how good this wine smells! On the palate, the wine is decidedly dry, vibrant, and fresh with flavors of snappy red fruits, flowers, and lemony acidity. It goes down way too easy, so we’re going to say you might want to buy more than 1 bottle!
