For some of you, this wine should already be familiar. We poured it a couple of weekends back along with the fantastic red from this estate, and both of them flew out of the store rapidly. The red is our current Case of the Month selection, and you can read more about that one and the estate by clicking here. Through July 7th, you can mix and match a case of these two wines to get the $12.99/bottle price — that’s a steal!
With vineyards located in rocky soils just west of Avignon and Chateauneuf du Pape, Costieres de Nimes is one of the great value zones of the Southern Rhone. Proprietor, winemaker, and longtime Lafite Rothschild oenologist Francois Collard is just as talented with the native white varieties of the region as he is with the indigenous red grapes. This masterfully crafted white wine is made up of 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, 20% Vermentino, and 10% Viognier. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh and exotic fruit character of all of these Mediterranean grapes.
This is one of those wines that smells so good that you almost forget to drink it! Don’t make that mistake because it’s absolutely delicious. On the nose, it’s all summer peach, golden apple, creamy lemon, and fresh flowers and those characteristics continue on the palate. Dry, fresh, and invigorating, it’s that perfect balance of rich fruit and zesty acidity. For fans of the Domaine Lafage Cuvée Centenaire (one of our previous Wine of the Week selections), you should definitely pick up a bottle of this.
As we said earlier, this is the perfect summer white wine for sipping and sunbathing, but it would also work incredibly well with grilled fish or any sort of seafood preparation. Stop by the store and pick some up, call us at 828.505.8588, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to secure yourself some of this delicious white wine today. Cheers and happy drinking and eating in Asheville!
