Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Blanc

2013 Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Blanc

SOLD OUT! We challenge you not to like this wine! For those who remember the joys of the Jean-Paul Brun Beaujolais Blanc that we featured this past summer, get ready for Round 2.

Until his untimely death earlier this year, Damien Dupeuble ran this fantastic domaine with the help of his wife, his brothers, his sons, and his daughter. Located in Le Breuil, in the deep southern part of Beaujolais, the estate has been running continuously since 1515!

2013 Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Blanc

Golden fruited, fleshy, and concentrated Chardonnay!

SOLD OUT

Domaine Dupeuble is comprised of 100 hectares, and about 40% of that land is dedicated to the vine. The Dupeubles are strong proponents of the lutte raisonée approach to vineyard work, and they farm their vineyards without the use of any chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. They also harvest with their hands, ferment with native yeasts, vinify with super low levels of SO2, and their wines are never chapitalized or filtered.

The 2013 Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Blanc is all Chardonnay from a tiny clay and limestone composed vineyard. The vines are over 30 years of age, and that maturity results in intensely flavored grapes. Damien chose to ferment entirely in stainless steel to preserve the natural intensity and purity of fruit present in this wine.

Upon pouring, you can tell that this is not just some boring, no-oak Chardonnay. It possesses a deep straw, almost golden color. The aroma is pure, unbridled, uninhibited Chardonnay — golden apple, pear, sweet lemon, flowers and mineral all come to mind. The palate is fresh and crisp, but sappy and concentrated, with a nice mix of ripe orchard fruits and zesty citrus fruits all backed up by notes of white flowers, delicate spice and just a hint of crushed rock.

Thank God for wines like this one, producers like Domaine Dupeuble, and importers like Kermit Lynch who started bringing this small production wine to the states in the late 1980’s.
